National Affairs
1)Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for 2020-21 was released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
- The unemployment rate saw a decrease of 0.6% and fell to 4.2% in 2020-21, compared with 4.8% in 2019-20
- Rural areas recorded an unemployment rate of 3% and urban areas recorded an unemployment rate of 6.7%.
- The National Statistical Office (NSO) uses a “rotational panel sampling design” in urban areas to assess the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and the unemployment rate, and visits to selected households in urban areas four times.
- The LFPR, the percentage of persons in the labor force (that is, working or seeking work or available for work) in the population was 6% during 2020-21. It was 40.1% in the previous year.
2)The ‘Bharat Gaurav’ train service from Coimbatore to Shirdi, a first of its kind in the country, was inaugurated at the Coimbatore North Railway Station.
- To promote and attract tourism business, the Indian Railways launched Bharat Gaurav trains that will be operated by private players and run on theme-based circuits.
- Through this policy, which offers operators the “Right of Use” of its rakes and infrastructure, the Railways has liberalized and simplified a part of operations that was otherwise carried out mostly by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
- While any entity can run these trains, including state governments, it is implied that the policy is targeted at tour operators.
3)The government unveiled its new Agnipath scheme for recruiting soldiers across the three services.
- Under the new scheme, around 45,000 to 50,000 soldiers (will be called ‘Agniveers’) will be recruited annually (for a short period, and most will leave the service in just four years.
- Of the total annual recruits, only 25 percent will be allowed to continue for another 15 years under permanent commission.
4)PM Modi inaugurates Jagatguru Sreesanth Tukaram Maharaj Shila Mandir in Pune.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Jagatguru Sreesanth Tukaram Maharaj Shila Mandir at Dehu Village near Pune, dedicated to the 17th-century seer.
- Sant Tukaram was a Warkari saint and poet, famously known for Abhyanga devotional poetry and community-oriented worship through spiritual songs known as Kirtans. He lived in Dehu.
5)Rashtriya Puraskar Portal’ was launched by the government.
- To encourage openness and public partnership, the Union Government has developed the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal, which invites nominations for numerous awards given by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
- The Portal intends to make it easier for the public to propose people and organizations for various prizes given out by the Indian government.

2)Prophet Row: Kuwait to deport ex-pats who protested over remarks against the Prophet.
- The Kuwaiti government has decided to arrest and deport an unspecified number of ex-pats who participated in a protest against the controversial remarks by two former BJP functionaries against Prophet Muhammad, as the Gulf nation’s laws do not allow such demonstrations, according to a media report.
Business and Economy News
1)India would become a USD 10 trillion economy by 2033-34, says Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran.
- Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran on Tuesday said India would become a USD 5 trillion economy by 2026-27 and USD 10 trillion by 2033-34.
- Addressing an event organized by UNDP India, Nageswaran said India is relatively better placed than other emerging economies.
2)India jumps 6 places to 37th rank on IMD’s World Competitiveness Index; Denmark tops the chart.
- India has witnessed the sharpest rise among the Asian economies, with a six-position jump from 43rd to 37th rank on the annual World Competitiveness Index compiled by the Institute for Management Development, largely due to gains in economic performance.
- Denmark has moved to the top of the 63-nation list from the third position last year, while Switzerland slipped from the top ranking to the second position and Singapore regained the third spot from the fifth.

1)Haryana is the ultimate Khelo India champion.
- With the day starting with Maharashtra leading the medals tally, Haryana boxers came up with a dominating display to win ten gold medals out of the 20 medals on offer in boxing to help hosts Haryana win the overall championship trophy on the concluding day of the Khelo India Youth Games at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex.

- The Congress on Wednesday accused the BJP government of blocking political activities by preventing party workers from entering its headquarters and said the ruling dispensation will have to face consequences.
2)Stalin criticizes as ED quizzes Rahul Gandhi: ‘Outrageous political vendetta’.
- The Tamil Nadu chief minister stepped up his attack, further saying that the BJP was using diversionary tactics”.
- “Having no answers to the pressing issues of the common man, BJP uses such diversionary tactics to save itself from the public ire. Political opponents should be fought politically, not by ‘forcing’ the Enforcement Directorate. (2/2) (sic),” he added.
