  1.   Gen Manoj Pande becomes first Chief of Corps of Engineers-
  • Gen Manoj Pande, who was serving as the Vice Chief since February, took over as the new Army Chief from Gen MM Naravane on his retirement.
  • Gen Naravane had taken over as the Army Chief in January 2020, months before the standoff with China in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020.
  • Gen Pande will have a tenure of a little more than two years.
  1.   Nitish Kumar opens India’s first greenfield grain-based ethanol plant-
  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar opened the country’s first greenfield grain-based ethanol plant in Purnea and said ethanol production will help reduce the cost of petrol and generate employment.
  • The Rs 105-crore plant by Eastern India Biofuels Pvt Ltd is the first one developed since the Centre gave a go-ahead to Bihar’s ethanol production and promotion policy-2021.
  1.   Sardar Patel statue in Canada’s Markham-
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be taking part virtually in a program in Markham, Canada, where a statue of Sardar Patel will be unveiled at the Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre.
  1.   Vinay Mohan Kwatra assumes charge as new Foreign Secretary-
  • Senior IFS officer Vinay Mohan Kwatra assumed charge as India’s new Foreign Secretary.
  • He succeeded incumbent Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
  • A 1988 batch IFS officer, Mr. Kwatra was earlier serving as India’s Ambassador to Nepal.

  •   Indian-origin man Nand Mulchandani is CIA’s first chief tech officer-
  • Nand Mulchandani, an Indian-origin man, has been appointed as Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) first-ever Chief Technology Officer.
  • Mulchandani studied at Delhi’s Bluebells School International between 1979 and 1987.

Business & Economy Current Affairs:

  •   India ranks 4th in solar energy generation globally-
  • In the last 10 years, solar energy generation and capacity have been growing globally, with China leading the way. India has also substantially increased capacity and generation as it strives to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.


Science & Technology Daily Current Affairs:

  1.   India now ranks tenth in genome sequencing; 176% rise in numbers-
  • The central government has stopped sharing information on genome sequencing, but a research paper has found that India’s efficiency and capacity for it has improved in the last two years.
  1.   India to develop and build the first indigenous Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vessel-
  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways decided to develop and build India’s first indigenous Hydrogen Fuelled Electric Vessels at Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL).
  • This has kick-started the efforts of the country toward green shipping.
  • Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the plan for building Hydrogen Fuelled Electric Vessels is keeping pace with the Global Maritime Green Transitions.

Sports Current Affairs:

  • Former tennis player Boris Becker jailed for two-and-half years in the UK for hiding assets-
  • Six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker was sentenced to two-and-half years in jail by a UK court after he was found guilty of hiding large amounts of assets after he was declared bankrupt.

Miscellaneous Current Affairs:

  1.   International Labour Day is being celebrated to commemorate the labor movement- International Workers’ Day or Labour Day is celebrated on May 1 in most countries.
  • Labour Day is observed to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of the workers’ and laborers’ movements.
  • It is also known as May Day.
  • May Day is celebrated in more than 80 countries, including India, Cuba, and China.
  • The origin of Labour Day can be traced back to the United States of America in the 19th Century.
  • May 1, in particular, was chosen as the date to mark Labour Day to commemorate the nationwide strike for an eight-hour day in 1886 that began on May 1 and ended as the Haymarket affair in Chicago US.
