India’s ‘first’ tribal health observatory to come up in Odisha
- Odisha is set to come up with India’s “only” observatory that will establish a repository on the health of the tribal population in the state.
- The Tribal Health Observatory (TriHOb) is the “first in the country”, and is designed to be an effective, evidence-based, and policy-oriented center.
2. IRCTC to run its first Bharat Gaurav Tourist train on June 21; Nepal’s Janakpur in the itinerary
- IRCTC will run its first Bharat Gaurav Tourist train on June 21, which would include a stop at Nepal’s Janakpur.
- This train will run on the Ramayana Circuit identified under the Swadesh Darshan scheme covering prominent places associated with the life of Lord Shri Rama, including the Ram Janaki temple in Janakpur located in Nepal.
- The proposed 18-day Bharat Gaurav Tourist train tour has its first stop at Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, where tourists will visit Shri Ram Janmabhumi temple and Hanuman temple and additionally Bharat Mandir at Nandigram, dedicated to Lord Ram’s younger brother Bharat.

3. Bhopal, Surat, Udaipur to be India’s first smart cities
- Bhopal, Surat, Bhubaneswar, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, and Indore are set to be declared India’s ‘first set of smart cities’.
- Seven years after the launch of a flagship urban renewal mission to make 100 cities sustainable and citizen-friendly, the seven cities from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh will be showcased as such cities by the end of the year.
- The Smart Cities Mission, launched on June 25, 2015, to ‘smarten up’ cities with eco-friendly hi-tech solutions to urban problems, is in its last year of implementation.
- The mission period ends in June 2023.
- Of the 100 cities, the seven have taken a lead with most projects completed.
- Bhopal has completed 92% of projects, Surat 82.44%, Udaipur 78%, Bhubaneswar 76%, Indore, Varanasi, and Ahmedabad 70%.
4. PM Modi participates in Second India-Nordic Summit at Copenhagen in Denmark
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Second India-Nordic Summit Copenhagen in Denmark.
- The Prime Ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway have also participated in the summit.
- The summit provided an opportunity to review the progress of the India-Nordic relations since the first India-Nordic Summit, which was held in 2018 in Stockholm.
- During the Summit, the Prime Ministers pledged to continue to deepen cooperation and focused their discussions on key issues related to international peace and security.
- Discussions were also held on multilateral cooperation in post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, sustainable development, innovation, digitalization, and green and clean growth.
5. Bhubaneswar: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurates India’s First Women’s Business Mela
- Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Women’s Entrepreneurship Council (IWEC) organized India’s First Women’s Business Mela was inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
- The inauguration was graced by ministers Arun Kumar Sahoo, Minister of Higher Education, Pradeep Sureka, President of ICC, JB Pany, Chairman of ICC Odisha, M K Gupta, Co-Chairman ICC Odisha, Sukirti Patnaik, Co-Chairperson IWEC National, and Convenor IWEC Odisha & Tanaya Patnaik, Co-Convenor IWEC Odisha as well as Bollywood actress Ms. Lara Dutta.

1. IBM Chairman Arvind Krishna was elected to the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
- IBM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna have been elected to the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
- Krishna has been elected as a Class B director, “representing the public with due but not exclusive consideration to the interests of agriculture, commerce, industry, services, labor, and consumers.”
2. Uzbekistan legalizes solar-powered cryptocurrency mining
- Uzbekistan will allow companies to mine cryptocurrencies using solar energy and will exempt all crypto operations by domestic- and foreign companies from income tax.
- The Tashkent government wants miners to power their farms by installing their own solar panels.
- Alternatively, mining companies can be connected to the power grid if they pay to double the regular price.
- Uzbekistan legalized cryptocurrency trading in 2018 but only on a domestic crypto exchange. The central Asian nation has also launched a series of renewable energy projects, mostly solar and wind power plants.
- Neighbouring Kazakhstan, which became the world’s second-largest center for bitcoin mining after the United States.

1. NASA scientists study 50-year-old lunar samples ahead of Artemis missions
- Ahead of the Artemis missions that will send humans back to the moon, scientists at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center received samples of the lunar surface that were preserved in a freezer at the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston since Apollo 17 astronauts returned them to Earth in December 1972.
- The research is part of the space agency’s Apollo Next Generation Sample Analysis Program (ANGSA), which is an effort to study the samples returned from the Apollo Program in preparation for the Artemis missions to the Moon’s south pole.
- The process of getting the samples from Johnson to researchers at Goddard is not simple.
- It began over four years ago when NASA’s Julie Mitchell and her Artemis curation team at Johnson began designing and retrofitting a facility to process the samples.
- They employed a new technique that could be applied to future lunar missions.

- India will be the Official Country of Honour at the upcoming Marche’ Du Film, organized alongside the Cannes Film Festival in France.
- This is for the first time that such an honor is being bestowed on any country.
3. Andhra Pradesh: Rythu Bharosa Kendras nominated for UN Award
- The Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBK) have been nominated for the United Nations Award by the Centre for Champion Awards (CCA) of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
- These awards are given for outstanding contributions by the governments to increasing food security.
