The last date for application and submission of documents for RRB NTPC 2019 has already passed.
The exam will be held in the months of July to September 2019.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum 12th or +2 stage, any graduates
- Age limit: 18 to 30 years as of 1.1.19 (please view official notification to view the age relaxations for different categories)
Structure
The exams that one must qualify in to be employed via RRB NTPC exam are:
- Preliminary Test
- Main Test
- Personal Test
Stages are: 1st round Computer based test (CBT), 2nd round CBT, Computer aptitude test/Typing test (as per post requirements), Document Verification and Medical examination.
Railway NTPC jobs can be divided into various levels as follows:
L2: Junior clerk cum typist, Accounts clerk cum typist, Junior timekeeper, Trains clerk
L3: Commercial cum ticket clerk
L4: Traffic assistant
L5: Goods guard, Senior commercial cum ticket clerk, Senior clerk cum typist, Junior Account assistant cum typist, Senior timekeeper
L6: Commercial apprentice, station master
Candidates for posts of all levels must take the same CBT in the first round and some also must take the same aptitude tests. Each level has different CBTs in the second round which are also common for every post of that particular level.
The candidates that have to take up the Typing Skill Test are those aspiring for the posts including typist in the post name and also those who want to be timekeepers.
The candidates that have to take up the Computer Based Aptitude test are those competing for the post of Station Master and also Traffic Assistant.

Pattern:
The exams we are discussing today are the CBTs of both stages. Both stages are 90 minutes long (120 minutes for PWDs) and also have only MCQs.
Both the stages only have the following sections in their papers:
- Mathematics
- General Awareness
- General Intelligence and Reasoning
Stage 1:
Marking scheme is +1, -1/3 (negative marking), and the normalised marking of CBT stage 1 is used to select candidates for CBT stage 2. Here, the questions are in accordance with the prevailing standards of education. There are 100 questions, with the following distribution:
Math -30
GIR -30
GK (GA) -40
Stage 2:
Marking scheme is +1, -1/3 but questions are of different levels based on the post you have opted for. Marks will be normalised. There are 120 questions with the following distribution:
Math -35
GIR-35
GK (GA) -50
