1. SHRESHTA- scheme launched by the Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar-

Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister of social justice and empowerment, has launched the SHRESHTA-scheme for the students in High School in targeted areas.
SHRESHTA-scheme stands for Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Targeted Areas.
The aim behind the scheme is to provide quality education and opportunities even for the poorest.

2. ‘Anchal’, Rajasthan’s special health care Abhiyan, launched for pregnant women-

‘Anchal’, a special health care Abhiyan for pregnant women, has been launched in the Karauli district of Rajasthan for pregnant women.
The Abhiyan has benefited for than 13 thousand women.
13,144 women were tested for their hemoglobin during the campaign. Out of them, 11,202 women were found to be anemic.
Proper medicine and a nutritious diet were prescribed to these women along with the advice to remain stress-free.

3. Gandhi Citizenship Education Prize set up by Portugal-

Antonio Costa, the Prime Minister of Portugal, set up the Gandhi Citizenship Education Prize last month to promote the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Gandhian quotes and thoughts are the inspiration behind the Gandhi Citizenship Education Prize which will be given out every year.
Following Gandhi’s morals on animal welfare and how the condition and treatment of the animals show the country’s greatness, the first edition of the education prize will be given for animal welfare.

4. For 2021-22, Government approved an 8.1% EPF interest rate-

8.1% rate of interest has been levied on Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) deposits for 2021-22 by the government.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) had decided earlier this March to lower the interest on provident fund deposits for 2021-22 from 8.5% to 8.1%

5. Chandigarh to house an IAF heritage center-

Chandigarh is to house a heritage center of the Indian Air Force.
The IAF heritage center will highlight the role of the Indian Air Force in various wars and its overall functioning.
Chandigarh administration and the IAF will jointly set up the heritage center.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh and the IAF have signed an MoU for setting up the center.
Banwarilal Purohit, Punjab’s Governor, and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari attended the ceremony.

6. Rafael Nadal bags the Roland Garros title-

Rafael Nadal gets his 14th French Open Title after beating Casper Ruud, a 23-year-old Norwegian tennis player.
Nadal beat Casper, the first-time Grand Slam finalist in three straight sets to claim the Rolan Garros title.

7. 5th June celebrated as the 50th World Environment Day 2022-

5th June is observed as the World Environment Day every year.
The day is commemorated to raise awareness about protecting the environment and to not take it for granted.
For this year, Sweden was the host country and the theme was ‘Only One Earth’ to help promote the idea of sustainable living in harmony with nature.

1. Rotary International Convention 2022 addressed by Prime Minister Modi virtually-

While addressing the Rotary International Convention 2022, PM Modi said that India is the land of Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi who taught what it means to live for others.
PM Modi attended the Rotary International World Convention virtually.

2. The 4th State Food Safety Index released by the Union Health Minister-

On 7th June 2022, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister for Health and Family Welfare, released the 4th State Food Safety Index (SFSI).
According to the report, Tamil Nadu is the top-ranking state, followed by Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) released the report.
The report is generated after measuring the performance of the States across five parameters of food safety.

3. General Major Bajram Begaj is elected as the new president of Albania-

The Parliament of Albania has elected General Major Bajram Begaj, a top military official, as its new president.
The decision was made after no candidates were nominated in three rounds of voting.
Ilir Meta, the outgoing President, has signed the document to release Bagaj as Chief of General Staff of the AAF.

4. For a stronger cooperation, India and Canada sign an MoU on Climate Action-

Bhupendra Yadav, Union Environment Minister of India, and Steven Guilbeault have signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Stockholm + 50 summit.
The MoU is signed to strengthen the bilateral collaboration between India and Canada on climate change, environmental preservation, and conservation.

5. Naval exercises in Baltic Sea held by NATO with NATO allies and partners-

More than 7,000 sailors, airmen, and marines from 16 nations, including Finland and Sweden, the two aspiring NATO members, began the two-week US-led naval exercise in the Baltic Sea.
The BALTOPS is an annual naval exercise that began in 1972 is not carried out in response to any particular danger.
NATO stated that “with both Sweden and Finland participating, NATO is embracing the opportunity in an unpredictable world to increase its combined force resilience and strength” as a collaboration with the two Nordic aspirant countries.

6. The foreign exchange reserves of India have surpassed USD 600 billion-

Courtesy of a substantial growth in the country’s foreign currency assets, the foreign exchange reserves of India have increased from USD 3.854 billion to USD 601.363 billion.

7. The first-ever National Air Sports Policy 2022 has been announced-

Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, has announced the first-ever National Air Sports Policy in New Delhi.
The aim behind the policy is to make India one of the top air sporting nations by 2030.
It will also aim to improve and provide a safe, affordable, and sustainable air sports environment in the country.
The policy will promote 11 air sports.

8. Blue Duke: the State Butterfly of Sikkim-

P.S Golay, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, declared Blue Duke as the State Butterfly of Sikkim during the World Environment Day celebrations.
Blue Duke is a native butterfly of Sikkim who had a strong contender named Krishna Peacock.
Among the 720-odd butterfly species, Blue Duke and Krishna Peacock were shortlisted as the nominees for the State Butterfly, where Blue Duke won the title.

1. ‘Beach Vigil App’ launched by Goa CM for holistic management of beaches-

Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, has launched the ‘Beach Vigil App’.
The app is made in collaboration between the tourism sector and Information Technology (IT) sector.
The aim behind the launch of the app is to benefit the tourists and the institutions working in the beach tourism to have a holistic management and maintenance of the beaches.

2. The National Highways Authority of India wins the Guinness World Record-

NHAI, National Highways Authority of India, along with their contractors have won the Guinness World Records for putting down a 75 km long continuous Bituminous Concrete Road in 5 days.
It took a total of 105 hours and 33 minutes to complete the work.

3. In terms of environmental performance in 2022, India ranks the lowest in the world-

According to the 2022 Environment Performance Index (EPI), an analysis by the researchers of Yale and Columbia University, provided a data-driven evaluation of the situation of sustainability around the world.
India ranked in the lowest position out of the 180 countries.
EPI ranks the countries out of 40 performance factors, some of which are climate change, environmental public health, and biodiversity.

4. The new MD of SBI appointed to be Alok Kumar Choudhary-

The new Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI) is to be Alok Kumar Choudhary.
The new transfer of the responsibilities came after the superannuation of Ashwani Bhatia as Managing Director on 31st May 2022.
Earlier, Choudhary was the Deputy Managing Director of the bank.

5. The new Cancer drug trial makes a breakthrough-

In a recent medical drug test in the US, 18 patients with rectal cancer were taking a drug called ‘Dostarlimab’ for 6 months after which each patient was observed to no longer have the tumor in their body.
This is considered as a ray of hope for the permanent solution to cure cancer.
Dr. Luis A. Diaz J. of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center stated that this is the first time that something like this has happened in the history of cancer.

6. Mithali Raj bids adieu to all forms of International Cricket-

Mithali Raj, the Indian batter, has announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket.
Raj is the leading run-scorer in Women’s ODI.
Mithali Raj is retiring with a total score of playing 232 matches and 7805 runs at an average of 50.68.

1. Ramkrishna Mukkavilli: the first Indian recognized by the United Nations Global Compact as Global SDG Pioneer-

Ramkrishna Mukkavilli is recognized as the Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneer for Water Stewardship by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).
This is for the first time that an Indian is recognized for the role.
10 new SDG Pioneers have been named by the UNGC who are corporate leaders and are excelling in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These leaders are implementing the UN Global Compact 10 Principles on human rights, environment, labor, and anti-corruption.

2. The first State Women’s Conference of Meghalaya was held in Shillong-

On June 8, 2022, Meghalaya’s first State Women’s Conference was held at the State Convention Center, Shillong.
The theme of the conference was ‘Support and Celebrate’.
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the conference.
The aim of the event was to celebrate women and generate dialogues towards creating a sustainable and enabling environment for women.

3. A Crewed Mission to build the Tiangong Space Station is launched by China-

Three astronauts have been sent on a six-month mission by China to complete work on their permanent orbiting space station.
The Shenzhou-14 crew will be on board the Tiangong station for six months.
The crew will oversee the integration of two laboratory modules into the main Tianhe living room that was launched in April 2021.

4. Humanitarian assistance worth $48 Million to be granted to Sri Lanka by the UN-

Amid the crisis in Sri Lanka, the United Nations has decided to provide humanitarian assistance worth $48 Million to the country over a period of four months.
New Delhi had been providing assistance worth $3 Billion since January to provide essential items like food, fuel, cooking gas, and medicines.
Sri Lanka needs $6 billion to keep itself afloat the economy crises its facing.

5. PM Modi inaugurates India’s first Biotech Startup Expo 2022-

On 9th June 2022, PM Modi inaugurated India’s first Biotech Startup Expo in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
During the inauguration, Modi stated that the country’s first Biotech Startup Expo is a reflection of the growth of the biotech sector of the country.
Union Ministers Dr. Jitendra Singh, Piyush Goyal, and Dharmendra Pradhan also attended the inauguration.

6. World’s most detailed map of the Moon released by China-

The detailed map of the Moon released by China will provide a lot of aid for the scientific research, exploration, and landing site selection on the Moon.
It is a new comprehensive geological map of the Moon.
The Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences had led the project of the World’s most detailed map of the Moon.
Other organizations that contributed to the research are the China University of Geosciences, the Chinese Academy of Geological Science, and Shandong University.

7. Avani Lekhara wins gold at the Para World Cup for shooting-

The Tokyo Paralympics winner, Avani Lekhara wins another gold at the Para Shooting World Cup in Chateauroux, France.
Lekhara set a world record score of 250.6 in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1.
the 20-year-old broke her own record of 249.6 to qualify for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
