  • The Lakshadweep administration has released a new and exciting order- Wednesday is to be ‘a cycle day’ for all Government employees.
  • In order to curb the pollution, the officials have released such an order.

India’s PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana program which prevented extreme poverty in the country during Covid Pandemic is acclaimed by IMF-

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has praised India’s food subsidy program which had prevented the increased chances of extreme poverty in the country during Covid-19.
  • The expansion of food transfers and subsidies make it an important instrument for poverty alleviation, said the IMF in a report.
  • The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana is a program that provides insurance to the poor and prevents an increase in the prevalence of extreme poverty in the country, praised a report.
  • The report stated that the doubling of entitlements in 2020 during the pandemic helped maintain extreme poverty at the low 0.8 percent level.
  • Had it not been for the food subsidies, extreme poverty in the pandemic years would have increased by 1.05 percent. 
  • Poverty in the country declined the fastest during the period of 2014 to 2019 according to the report.
  • The report also states that the social safety net provided by the expansion of the country’s food subsidy program absorbed a major part of the pandemic shock.
  • This scheme presented by the government of India illustrates the robustness of the country’s social safety architecture as it withstood one of the world’s biggest income shocks.

Digital Dashboard for District Ganga Committees Performance Monitoring System Launched by Jal Shakti Minister-

  • Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Jal Shakti Minister, launched the Digital Dashboard for District Ganga Committees Performance Monitoring System.
  • The Digital Dashboard will help the District Ganga Committees DGCs in enhancing people-river connections.
  • The Jal Shakti Minister had pointed out that some DGCs are not conducting regular meetings.
  • He has urged the District Magistrates to make sure that Ganga cleaning becomes a priority and cleanliness in River Ganga is ensured under the chairmanship of District Magistrates.
  • The Minister also added that cleaning Ganga means cleaning all its tributaries.
  • It is important for the district officials to take ownership of the assets created under the Namami Gange program in the Ganga Basin and ensure their smooth functioning.

  • The Koo App becomes the first social media platform in the world to launch voluntary self-verification for users.
  • By using the government-approved ID card, any user can now self-verify their profile on the platform within a few seconds.
  • This feature enables users to prove the authenticity of their accounts on the platform, lending credibility to the thoughts and opinions that they share.
  • Voluntary self-verification promotes the visibility of genuine voices.
  • Unlike a blue tick, a green tick will act as the marker that identifies an account as being self-verified.
  • Koo is the first ‘significant social media intermediary’ to launch this feature in accordance with Rule 4(7) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

The Granddaughter of L’Oreal’s founder is the world’s richest woman-

  • According to business publication Forbes’ 2022 list of richest individuals, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the cosmetic giant L’Oreal’s founder’s granddaughter is the richest woman in the world with a net worth of $74.8 billion.
  • Two years ago Meyer’s net worth was $48.9 billion which has now risen significantly from 2020 and over the past twelve months from $73.6 billion in 2021.

Kangra tea to get European GI tag-

  • Kangra Tea which is special for its distinct flavor will soon get a Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the European Commission.
  • Kangra Tea received the status of Geographical Indication Tag in India back in 2005.
  • Four departments are looking after the development, cultivation, and promotion of Kangra tea. The departments are the Tea Board of India Regional office Palampur, cooperative and agriculture departments of the state, and CSIR, IHBT Palampur Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agriculture University, Palampur.

‘Prakriti’ and other Green Initiatives are launched by the Environment Minister for Effective Plastic Waste Management-

  • Bhupender Yadav, the Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, launched the awareness mascot ‘Prakriti’ & other green initiatives for effective plastic waste management on 5th March 2022.
  • The mascot ‘Prakriti’ has been launched to spread mass awareness about how the adoption of small changes in our lifestyle can play a big role in environmental sustenance.
  • The program also teaches about various efforts and initiatives by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and Central Pollution Centre Board (CPCB) in order to ensure effective Plastic Waste Management (PWM) in the country.

Dartmouth engineers develop rapid printing technology for rigid and flexible solar modules

  • A group of researchers at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire have developed a new flexographic printing method that can help manufacture Perovskite solar cells quickly and reliably.
  • This new technique enables inexpensive mass printing of solar cells closer to reality.
  • Perovskites are materials that have the same crystal structure as the mineral calcium titanium oxide, which was the first-discovered perovskite crystal.
  • These materials have shown potential for high performance and low production costs when used to create solar cells.
  • The researchers documented their findings in a study titled, “Eliminating the Perovskite Solar Cell Manufacturing Bottleneck via High-Speed Flexography,” published in Advanced Materials Technologies.

  • The staff consists of 7 teenagers, all of whom are HIV-positive.

India tops in the world in terms of the number of persons killed in road accidents 

  • Based on the latest issue of the World Road Statistics (WRS) 2018, brought out by the International Road Federation, Geneva, India ranks number 3 per number of accidents.
  • India also ranks number 1 per number of persons killed and ranks number 3 per number of persons injured in road accidents.

Two Indians – Falguni Shah and Ricky Kej win big at the 64th Grammy Awards held in Las Vegas-

  • US-based Falguni Shah won the Grammy for the Best Children’s Album. 
  • Bengaluru’s Ricky Kej won his hallowed gramophone jointly with The Police drummer Stewart Copeland for the Best New Age Album.
  • This is the second Grammy for the Indian musician. His first had come at the 57th Grammy ceremony in 2015 for Winds of Samsara – a collaboration with South African flutist Wouter Kellerman.
  • The 14-song album began with tributes to their respective fathers of the nation – Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela and went on to explore other aspects of Indian and African music.
