National Current Affairs:

1. Karnataka varsity, first in India to hold exams as per NEP guidelines-

  • Karnataka University in Dharwad became the first university in the country to conduct semester-end examinations as per the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 guidelines.
  • More than 60,000 students appeared for the exams.

2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah to inaugurate ‘Amrit Samagam’, a two-day conference in New Delhi-

  • A two-day National Conference on Cooperation Policy is being organized in New Delhi.
  • The conference will be inaugurated by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
  • The Minister of State for Cooperation B. L. Verma will also grace the occasion.
  • Officials of Central, States, and Union Territories’ Governments along with heads of around 40 Cooperative and other major National Institutions will participate in this conference.
  • The Union Ministry of Cooperation said, six important themes covering policy framework, reforms for strengthening governance, making cooperatives vibrant economic entities, promoting social cooperatives, and the role of cooperatives in social security will be discussed during the conference.

3. PM Narendra Modi to be honored with first-ever Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award-

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be honored with the first-ever Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, instituted in the memory of the veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar who passed away in February this year.
  • Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan informed that the award ceremony will be held at Mumbai’s Shanmukhanand Hall.
  • It added that the award will be given annually to a person who has made a path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contribution to the nation and its people.
  • The organization announced Mr. Modi as an international statesman who has put India on the path of global leadership.
  • Calling Mr. Modi an inspiration, the organization said, he is one of the greatest leaders that India has seen in its glorious history.
  • Among the other awardees will be singer Rahul Despande, who will receive the Master Deenanath Award besides three other special awardees including veteran actress Asha Parekh, actor Jackie Shroff and the Mumbai Dabbawalas, represented by Nutan Tiffin Suppliers.
  • A musical show called ‘Swarlatanjali’ will also be organized after the award ceremony featuring singers like Roop Kumar Rathod, Priyanka Barwe, and Hariharan.

1. India successfully flight-tests Anti-Tank Guided Missile HELINA-

  • India successfully flight-tested Anti-Tank Guided Missile HELINA.
  • The missile was launched from an indigenously-developed helicopter at a high-altitude range.
  • It is one of the most advanced Anti-Tank weapons in the world.
  • The flight test was jointly conducted by the teams of scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Indian Army, and the Indian Air Force.
  • The flight trials were conducted from an Advanced Light Helicopter and the missile was fired successfully by engaging a simulated tank target.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the Indian Army for this achievement.
  • DRDO Chairman Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy congratulated the teams for the commendable job performed in difficult conditions.

2. China launches Earth Observation Satellite named ‘Gaofen-3 03’- 

  • China has recently launched a new earth observation satellite ‘Gaofen-3 03’
  • The satellite is to be included in the group of land-sea radar satellites.
  • Gaofen-3 03 will help China defend its maritime interests.

  • Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler captured his first major title by winning the Masters in dominating fashion, holding firm down the stretch to seize the green jacket after Tiger Woods completed his comeback from a severe leg injury.
  • Scheffler fired a final-round one-under-par 71 to finish 72 holes on 10-under 278 and defeat four-time major winner Rory McIlroy by three strokes with Australian Cameron Smith and Ireland’s Shane Lowry sharing third on 283.

1. Celebration of Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti-

  • Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is an annual festival observed on the 14th of April to commemorate the memory of B. R. Ambedkar, the Indian polymath, and civil rights activist.
  • It marks Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birthday who was born on 14th April 1891.

2. President Ramnath Kovind to inaugurate the annual Madhavpur Mela-

  • The Madhavpur Mela is held in the coastal village of Madhavpur, around 60 km south of Porbandar, and celebrates the marriage of the Hindu deity Lord Krishna with Rukmini.
  • It is believed that Rukmini, a princess from the present-day Arunachal Pradesh, wanted to marry Lord Krishna though her brother wanted her to marry Shishupal.
  • Therefore, Lord Krishna, who ran his kingdom from Dwarka in present-day Gujarat, abducted Rukmini and the couple tied the knot at a marriage ceremony organized in the Madhavpur village.
