Today’s National Current Affairs-

1. Centre is pulling out all stops to conduct the Amarnath Yatra on a grand scale this year-

  • Ever since the removal of Article 370, pilgrimage is to be held for the first time in three years in the country.
  • The Union Government is pulling out all stops to organize the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The pilgrimage is to be arranged on a grand scale to reflect the overall improvement on the security front in the newly created Union Territory.
  • Nearly 8 lakhs pilgrims are estimated to visit, and the Jammu and Kashmir police force is preparing accordingly.
  • The Amarnath Yatra is to commence on June 30 and conclude on August 11, 2022.

2. President Kovind, PM Modi, and other leaders of the country pay tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar on 131st Jayanti-

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to B. R. Ambedkar to commemorate his ideas for the welfare of Dalits.
  • Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was the key architect of India’s constitution who fought for the cause of the Dalit community, the most discriminated community in our society.
  • Modi said that Ambedkar’s fight for the downtrodden and deprived sections of society is an inspiration for his government.
  • The PM also said that his government’s schemes have been executed keeping in mind the poor’s interest.

International Current Affairs-

1. Shanghai cases hit record as Xi Jinping reiterates the urgency of Covid curb-

  • Since the first outbreak of Covid back in 2019, Shanghai is now battling the worst outbreak of the virus in China. 
  • The financial hub of China reported 27,000 coronavirus cases on Thursday.
  • The increased number of cases is reported a day after President Xi Jinping said that the country must continue with its strict “dynamic COVID clearance” policy and pandemic control measures.

2. Sri Lanka’s opposition party JVP to hold a three-day public march to protest against the government-

  • Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Sri Lanka’s opposition party, will hold a massive public march for three days, starting next week.
  • The march is to support the ongoing protest against the Rajapaksha government. 
  • The government is accused of “stubbornly” trying to stay in power by using various tactics without listening to people’s demands. 
  • Tilvin Silva, the JVP General Secretary, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the “largest public march in the country’s history” will be held from April 17 to April 19 to take “this struggle to victory”. 

Today’s Science and Technology Current Affairs-

1. India has 217 space objects orbiting Earth that are working towards reducing space debris: Report-

  • India had 103 spacecraft, including active and defunct satellites, and 114 space debris objects, including spent rocket bodies orbiting the earth.
  • Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh told the Parliament, “ Presently, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has taken up research activities to study the feasibility and technologies required to undertake active debris removal (ADR)”.

Business and Economy Current Affairs-

1. Infosys Q4 net profit rises 12%, company estimates FY23 revenue growth at 13-15%- 

  • Technology services company hired 85,000 freshers in FY 22, and now plans to recruit 50,000 freshers this financial year.
  • Infosys reported a 12% rise in net profit for the quarter ended March to Rupees 5,686 crore while revenue grew 22.7% to Rupees 32,276 crore from a year earlier.
  • The net profit rose to 14.3% for the full year ended March, as revenue rose to 21%

Miscellaneous Current Affairs-

1. IMD forecast ‘normal’ monsoon in the country, updates the definition of ‘average’ rain- 

  • In 2019, 2020, and 2021, India has received normal rainfall during the four-month southwest monsoon season.
  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) while forecasting a ‘normal’ monsoon for this year also, revised what constitutes the definition of ‘average’ rainfall.
  • India is to get 99% of the Long Period Average (LPA)
  • Back in 2018, the LPA was 89 cm but was changed to 88 cm in the same year.
  • In 2022, it is again updated to 87 cm.
