Meghalaya to host the 83rd National Table Tennis Championship, in 2022
- Today’s news says that Meghalaya is all set to host the 83rd National Table Tennis Championship 2022 from the 18th to 25th of April.
- The event is to take place at the SAI Indoor Training Centre, NEHU in Shillong.
- This would be the second time that the Northeast is to host the world’s largest table tennis tournament.
- The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, has stated that this tournament is one of the largest sports events the state has hosted to date.
- The state is to expect 650 people to attend the tournament, 450 of whom are the players themselves and the rest are to be their personal coaches and support personnel.
- The event is also in honour of Meghalaya’s 50th Anniversary of statehood.

- The President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksha has declared a state of emergency in the country.
- The announcement was made after hundreds of citizens of the country attempted to storm the President’s house exasperated by the economic crisis Sri Lanka is facing.

India’s GDP growth to be 7.2% for the next year, predicts ICRA
- The growth prediction for India’s GDP for the year 2022-23 has been predicted to be 7.2% by the ICRA.
- Earlier the rate was at 8% when the ICRA had predicted the rate to be 8.5% for 2021-22 which is lower than the official advance estimate of 8.9%
- The reasons for such a situation are listed to be the increased commodity prices and supply chain hassle due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and higher fuel and edible oil prices reducing the demand due to varying household incomes.

‘Startups Founders Hub’ platform launched by Microsoft
- Today’s news states that Microsoft has launched a new digital and inclusive platform for startups in India.
- The platform, called ‘Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub’, will help startup founders in India from a very early stage of their journey.
- The platform is to offer over USD 300,000 worth of benefits and credits including free access to technology, tools, and resources from tech giants and partners.

The winner of Swiss Open 2022- P V Sindhu
- Here’s a proud moment for India with P V Sindhu’s win in the Swiss Open 2022.
- She defeated Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand in the finals of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament that was held in Basel, Switzerland.
- This is her second title this season, the first achievement made in January with the Syed Modi India International win.

Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district recorded as the third hottest place in the world
- The El Dorado weather website recorded the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra as the third hottest city in the world with a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius.
- The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) had proclaimed Nagpur was also the hottest city in Vidarbha recording a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Akola.
- The temperature in Nagpur has surpassed 40 degrees, almost 3 degrees above usual.
- There were predicted heatwaves in Chandrapur and Yavatmal on the 2nd of April.
- The Met department has cautioned the citizens to be cautious and to be indoors.
