Today’s National Current Affairs-

1. PM Modi Inaugurates Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in New Delhi-

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in New Delhi on 14th April.
  • The inauguration was part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav- a 75-week celebration launched to mark the 75 years of Independence.
  • The Sangrahalaya is located in the iconic Teen Murti complex.
  • The museum will become a source of inspiration for the youth of the country who will be able to witness the hardships each PM faced and how they overcame them to lay the foundations of a new India.
  • The museum will also reflect the shared heritage of each government. 

2. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, ex-IPS officer, reappointed as National Commission for Minorities Chief-

  • The central government has re-appointed retired Punjab-cadre IPS officer Iqbal Singh Lalpura as the chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities.
  • Lalpura was appointed as the chairman in September last year from which he had to resign in December to contest as the BJP candidate from the Ropar assembly constituency, which he had lost.

International Current Affairs-

1. Ecuador becomes the 1st country to give legal rights to wild animals-

  • The South American country Ecuador became the first country in the world that gave legal rights to wild animals.
  • The highest court in the country has ruled in favor of the case that focused on a woolly monkey named ‘Estrellita’ who was taken from her to a zoo, where she passed just a week later.
  • The court’s decision ruled in favor of Estrellita and said that her rights had been violated by the government. 
  • They also added that the animal’s rights have been violated by the owner when she was removed from her natural habitat at a young age.
  • With this decision, the court has finally stated that animals are subjected to rights protected by the rights of nature.

2. UNDP Declares Grants of $2.2 Million in Climate Action for Innovators-

  • The UNDP and partners of the Adaptation Innovative Marketplace (AIM) have announced $2.2 Million in climate action funding for 22 local innovators from 19 countries, including India.
  • The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovative Accelerator (AFCIA) window’s first round of funding will improve local climate action and speed the achievement of the Paris Agreement’s and Sustainable Development Goals ambitions. 

Science Current Affairs-

1. Use of Micro-Swimmers in Drug Delivery-

  • New research shows that it is now possible to use light as a form of fuel to move microbots or micro-swimmers in real body conditions for the delivery of drugs that are selectively sensitive toward the cancer cells.
  • Microbots are a two-dimensional compound named poly (heptazine imide) carbon nitride is also known as PHI carbon nitride. 
  • The microbots range in size from 1 to 10 micrometers and after being energized by shining light they can self-propel. 

Business and Economy Current Affairs-

1. Infosys and Rolls-Royce launched ‘Aerospace Engineering and Digital Innovation Centre’-

  • IT major company Infosys and leading industrial tech company Rolls-Royce opened their joint “aerospace engineering and digital innovation center” in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
  • The center is launched to provide high-end R&D services integrated with advanced digital capabilities to Rolls-Royce’s engineering and group business services from India.
  • The collaboration will combine Infosys and Rolls-Royce’s aerospace, engineering, and digital services capabilities to explore opportunities for driving digital and engineering innovation and associated cost optimization strategies. 
  • The collaboration has been reinforced through strategic deals, aimed at yielding mutual benefits to both organizations over the next seven years.

2. Exemption Of Customs Duty On Cotton Import-

  • The removal of 5 percent Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC) and 5 percent Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on raw cotton has been demanded by the industry.
  • It will come into effect from the 14th of April 2022, this notification has come into effect and till the 30th of September 2022, it will remain in force.
  • The exemption of the Agriculture Infrastructure development Cess and Customs Duty for import of cotton has been notified by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

3. India’s GDP forecast has been slashed by the World Bank from 8.7 percent to 8 percent-

  • India’s GDP forecast has been slashed by the World Bank from 8.7 percent to 8 percent. The reason given for the change in forecast is due to rising inflation and worsening global supply caused due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
  • High food and oil prices due to the war in Ukraine will also have a negative impact on the real incomes of the people.
  • In the next fiscal of 2023-24, India’s growth will be accelerating further to 8 percent while in 2023 China will be witnessing a decline in growth to 4.8 percent.

Sports Current Affairs-

1. Australia’s Victoria to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games-

  • The Commonwealth Games, 2026, will be held in Victoria, a deviation from the conventional single host city approach with the majority of events being organized by the state’s regional centers.
  • In March 2026, the games will be held in numerous towns and regional centers around Australia, including Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, and Gippsland, each with its own athletes’ village. 

2. Netherlands won FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup 2022-

  • The Netherlands lifted their fourth title of FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup 2022 after beating Germany at Potchefstroom, South Africa.
  • The Netherlands has reigned itself as the most successful team in the tournament.

1. 15th April: Himachal Pradesh Statehood Day- 

  • Himachal Day is observed on the 15th of April in Himachal Pradesh. 
  • It was on the 15th of April that the state became a full-fledged state on this day.
  • Four districts of Mandi, Chamba, Mahasu, and Sirmour were integrated with over two dozen princely states, leading to the formation of Himachal Pradesh as a Union Territory in 1948.
  • Decades later, in 1971, Himachal Pradesh became the 18th state in India with Shimla as its capital.
