National Current Affairs:

1. BRO to construct the world’s highest tunnel at Shinku La Pass to connect Himachal to Ladakh-

  • Border Roads Organisation will construct the world’s highest tunnel at Shinku La Pass at 16,580 feet to connect Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh.
  • This tunnel, to be completed by 2025, will change the economy of Zanskar Valley.
  • At present, one has to travel 101 km from Manali to Darcha on Leh road and thereafter, take a turn from Darcha towards Shinku La Pass and enter Zanskar valley.

2. Country’s first-ever radio channel for the visually impaired, named ‘Radio Aksh’ has been launched in Nagpur-

  • Country’s first-ever radio channel for the visually impaired, named ‘Radio Aksh’ has been launched in Nagpur, with the Blind Relief Association Nagpur and Samdrushti Kshamata Vikas Avam Anusandhan Mandal (Saksham) serving as the pioneers of the concept that will help the visually-impaired gain seamless access to education resources and audiobooks.
  • This concept was created as a substitute for audiobooks provided by Samdrushti Kshamata Vikas Avam Anusandhan Mandal to the visually impaired on their digital devices, access to which was cut off due to the COVID-19 pandemic due to restrictions on travel.

3. In a first, India plans a standalone renewable battery power bank-

  • India is setting up a first-of-its-kind standalone renewable battery power bank envisaging an investment of Rs 2,000 crore to make green energy available on tap for discoms and grid operators during peak demand, but the spike in prices of lithium — a key ingredient for making batteries — and supply chain disruptions due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict may weigh on industry response.
  • According to the tender floated by SECI (formerly Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd), the government entity implementing India’s solar and wind energy plans, the project will have a storage capacity to supply 500MW for two hours, or 1,000MWh (megawatt-hour), the renewable energy ministry said.

4. Country’s first Skill India International Centre launched in Bhubaneswar-

  • Union skill development and entrepreneurship minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the country’s first Skill India International Centre in Bhubaneswar.
  • The center will train Indian youth as per international standards to enhance overseas opportunities for the skilled workforce as per the demand of international employers in countries such as Canada, Australia, and the Gulf region.
  • The center is set up in collaboration between the Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar, and NSDC International (NSDCI), a subsidiary of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship.
  • This center will provide high-quality training to Indian youth, especially the aspirants from Odisha, aiming to work overseas.
  • It will host training facilities to provide skills according to the demand of international employers.
  • This center will also have a wide network of partner organizations and overseas recruiters to facilitate the supply of skilled and certified workforce in other countries.

5. PM Modi unveils 108-ft statue of Lord Hanuman, says 2 more to come-

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 108-feet statue of Lord Hanuman in Gujarat’s Morbi district.
  • The statue is the second of the four statues that are being set up in four directions across the country.
  • This is a part of the #Hanumanji4dham project. The statue in Gujarat is set up in the west – at the Param Pujya Bapu Keshvanand Ashram in Morbi.

  • Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong confirmed that Finance Minister Lawrence Wong would succeed him as the city-state’s next leader.
  • Wong had been chosen as leader of the ruling People’s Action Party’s (PAP) so-called fourth-generation (4G) team, paving the way for him to potentially become the city-state’s next prime minister.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:

1. Uttar Pradesh plans to develop cow sanctuaries in villages-

  • Uttar Pradesh is likely to develop cow sanctuaries (gau abhyaranya) in villages to provide shelter and protection to stray animals.
  • The minister also suggested seeking peoples’ cooperation in taking care of cows and directed officials to regularly visit gaushalas (cow shelters) so that availability of fodder and other requirements were met.

Sports Current Affairs:

1. Actor R Madhavan’s son Vedaant Madhavan wins silver medal at Danish Open swimming in Copenhagen-

  • R Madhavan’s son, Vedaant Madhavan, has done the country proud by winning a silver medal at the Danish Open in Copenhagen.
  • ‘Vedaant Madhavan wins silver for India at the Danish Open in Copenhagen.

2. Netherlands lift fourth FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup title, beating Germany 3-1- 

  • The Netherlands lifted their fourth FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup title after beating Germany 3-1 in the final at Potchefstroom, South Africa.

1. World Haemophilia Day-

  • Every year on 17 April World Haemophilia Day is recognized worldwide to increase awareness of hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and other inherited bleeding disorders.

2. ‘The Boy Who Wrote the Constitution’ by Rajesh Talwar-

  • The Boy Who Wrote a Constitution is a play that seeks to inform children, and simultaneously have them meaningfully engage with the challenging boyhood and growing-up years of the person who came to write the Constitution of India, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
