Today’s National Current Affairs:

1. Mumbai To Become India’s First City To Get 100% Digital Buses-

  • Mumbai city will be the first in the country to get 100 percent digital buses, integrated with a “Tap in and Tap out’ facility.
  • “BEST to introduce Tap in Tap out facility for Mumbaikars for first time in any bus transport in India very soon. Get ready for a 100 percent digital experience using Chalo mobile app and Best Chalo smart card,”.

2. INS Vagsheer, last of six submarines under Project 75, launched-

  • INS Vagsheer, the sixth Scorpene-class submarine under Project-75, was launched by defense secretary Ajay Kumar in Mumbai.
  • The submarine, manufactured by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), will undergo rigorous tests before it is commissioned into the navy to ensure that it is fully combat-worthy.
  • Four submarines of the ongoing Project-75 Scorpene program at MDL are already commissioned into the Indian Navy, while the fifth submarine- Vagir is under the Sea Trial phase.

3. SC rejigs panel formed to oversee new e-way-

  • The Supreme Court expanded the 12-member expert panel formed to oversee the implementation of mitigation measures as part of the Delhi-Dehradun expressway project by adding two independent members and replacing the Uttarakhand chief secretary with Director-General, Forests in the Union ministry of environment, forests and climate change (MoEFCC) as chairman.
  • The order came on a petition filed by NGO Citizens for Green Doon, which approached the court to appeal against a December 2021 order of the NGT clearing a 12-kilometer elevated road project to be constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and crossing the animal corridor along the Ganeshpur-Dehradun road.
  • The tribunal formed an expert committee comprising nominees of Wildlife Institute of India, Central Pollution Control Board, and state Pollution Control Board, among others.

International Current Affairs:

1. Ivory Coast: Achi reappointed PM, regional bank chief named VP-

  • Patrick Achi has been reappointed as prime minister of Ivory Coast just a week after resigning from the post.
  • Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara announced the appointment of Tiemoko Meyliet Kone, the governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), as his vice president.

2. Indian-American navy veteran appointed Harris’s defense advisor-

  • Trailblazing Indian-American US Navy veteran Shanti Sethi has joined Vice President Kamala Harris’s office as her executive secretary and defense advisor.
  • Sethi, the first Indian-American commander of a major US Navy combat ship, recently joined Vice President Harris’ office.

Business & Economy Current Affairs:

1. OIL commissions India’s first pure green hydrogen plant in Assam-

  • Solar-powered pump station has installed capacity for 10 kg hydrogen per day.
  • Exploration and production major Oil India Limited (OIL) has commissioned “India’s first 99.999% pure” green hydrogen plant in Assam.
  • Green hydrogen, which has the potential to replace fossil fuels, is the name given to hydrogen gas produced using renewable energy such as wind or solar power that does not entail greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The green hydrogen pilot plant set up in central Assam’s Jorhat has an installed capacity for producing 10 kg of hydrogen per day.

2. Raghav Chadha, Ukrainian minister Fedorov in WEF’s Young Global Leaders list-

  • Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha, Edelweiss Mutual Fund CEO Radhika Gupta, and Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov were named by the World Economic Forum in its 2022 list of Young Global Leaders.
  • The list also includes Professor Yoichi Ochiai, musician, and composer Wissam Joubran, health justice advocate Jessica Beckerman and NGO founder Zoya Lytvyn.
  • His fellow Indians on the list include athlete Manasi Joshi, Innov8 Coworking founder Ritesh Malik, BharatPe CEO Suhail Sameer, Sugar Cosmetics CEO Vineeta Singh, and Global Himalayan Expedition CEO Jaideep Bansal.
  • The 2022 list also includes Imperial Logistics Limited’s Esha Mansingh, Abu Dhabi Growth Fund’s Mayank Singhal, Indorama Ventures Public Company’s Yashovardhan Lohia, and The Patrick J McGovern Foundation’s Vilas Dhar.

3. Chinese banks continue to dominate; ICICI latest Indian entrant among the top banks in Pac-

  • Chinese banks continued to dominate the Asia-Pacific banking scene accounting for six out of the top ten slots by assets in 2021, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.
  • India’s ICICI Bank has entered the top 50 list for the first time to join the State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank with $226 billion in assets.
  • SBI, India’s largest bank by assets, jumped two spots to be ranked 22nd on the list with $695 billion in assets.
  • HDFC Bank, the country’s private sector bank also improved its position to 44th from 46th last year. ICICI just about made it to the list at number 50 with $226 billion in assets.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:

1. ISRO, IISc researchers develop was to make bricks from Martian soil-

  • Researchers from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have developed a way to make bricks from Martian soil with the help of bacteria and urea.
  • These ‘space bricks’ can be used to construct building-like structures on Mars that could facilitate human settlement on the red planet.
  • The team first made the slurry by mixing Martian soil with guar gum, a bacterium called Sporosarcina pasteurii, urea, and nickel chloride (NaCl 2).
  • “This slurry can be poured into molds of any desired shape, and over a few days, the bacteria convert the urea into crystals of calcium carbonate.
  • These crystals, along with biopolymers secreted by the microbes, act as the cement holding the soil particles together,”.

2. Ajay Kumar Sood appointed Principal Scientific Advisor-

  • Ajay Kumar Sood has been appointed as the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the government.
  • Sood, a member of the Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, has been appointed to the post for three years to succeed renowned biologist K VijayRaghavan.
  • The PSA’s office aims to provide pragmatic and objective advice to the prime minister and cabinet on matters related to science, technology, and innovation with a focus on the application of science and technology in critical infrastructure, economic and social sectors in partnership with government departments, institutions, and industry.

1. World Creativity and Innovation Day 21 April-

  • The United Nations designated 21 April as World Creativity and Innovation Day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development.
