Today’s National Current Affairs:

1. CJI N V Ramana to chair the 39th conference of chief justices-

  • The Chief Justice of India N V Ramana will be chairing the 39th conference of chief justices in New Delhi.
  • The conference will be followed by the joint conference of chief justices and chief ministers at Vigyan Bhavan on April 30, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

2. J&K: Samba becomes the first district in India to cover 100% households under ABPMJAY- SEHAT scheme-

  • In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Samba district of the Jammu division has become the first district in India to cover 100% of households under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY)- SEHAT scheme.
  • The district achieved this milestone after the conclusion of a special registration drive organized by the State Health Agency (SHA) in all BDO offices across the district which aims to cover all families under the ABPMJAY SEHAT scheme in the district.
  • The Samba district has a total of 62,641 families with 3,04,510 people eligible for ABPM-JAY SEHAT golden cards.
  • However, 100% family coverage for the Ayushman Bharat Golden card in the district is a major achievement for the UT Government.
  • Worth mentioning, the ABPMJAY SEHAT scheme is the world’s largest health insurance scheme fully financed by Government and the people with Ayushman Bharat Golden Card get free treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh in all government and empaneled private hospitals across India.
  • This ambitious health insurance scheme enables all the residents of J&K including employees and pensioners, as well as their families to avail of cashless quality healthcare services across public and empaneled private hospitals across India.

3. Chhattisgarh government to celebrate Mati Poojan Diwas on May 3 to promote natural farming-

  • The Chhattisgarh government announced that it will celebrate Mati Poojan Diwas on Akshay Tritiya, which will be observed on May 3rd this year.
  • According to the government, the aim of organizing the first-of-its-kind festival is to promote “the use of cow urine and other organic materials on a large scale in place of chemical fertilizers and pesticides for the rejuvenation of soil fertility.”
  • According to the circular, the event is to be celebrated as a “maha-Abhiyan to promote the participation of farmers and public towards natural farming”.
  • “Various activities will be held to celebrate the day, including encouraging the use of vermicompost, cow urine, and organic fertilizers in place of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, spreading awareness about the harm caused by chemical farming, freeing human and animal food from harmful chemicals”.

4. Agriculture Ministry organizes week-long special campaign on ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’-

  • The Ministry of Agriculture is organizing a week-long special campaign on ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’ to create awareness of various schemes and their benefits for the farming community across the country.
  • As a part of the campaign, the Ministry will organize a demonstration of farm machinery at different locations across the country.
  • Along with the physical field visits, online webinars will also be organized to provide an interface between innovators and industries.
  • The Ministry will organize field visits to Sunflower cultivation sites in Ambala Kurukshetra of Haryana, Fatehgarh Saheb of Punjab, and mustard farms in Jammu, Kathua, and Udhampur. Kisan Goshti, programs will also be organized to make farmers aware of the benefits of the cultivation of cash crops.

5. India’s First Licensed Comic Book Store Comes Up in Mumbai-

  • Batman, Justice League, X-Men – these comics were a vivid part of any 90s kid’s memory. Our parents had their own.
  • But come the 2000s and all got caught up in the mire of social media, pushing the beautiful pages of these fictional worlds to the back of our minds.
  • A part of our childhood was believed to be lost until the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) came out with Iron Man and our fictional worlds come alive on screen.
  • The new comic bookstore launched in Mumbai will, hopefully, help revive the lost days of reading comics from actual pages and not just witnessing the story unfold on the big screen.

International Current Affairs-

1. US President Joe Biden released a proposal to seize Russia’s oligarchs’ US assets and offer them to Ukraine now-

  • As a gesture of support for Ukraine, the US President has proposed that US-based assets of Russian oligarchs will be seized and offered to Ukraine to help them rebuild their decimated cities.
  • Since the end of February the constant bombing of Ukraine by Russia has now led the world leaders to rise in unity to support the new EU country.
  • Biden also wants the US Congress to approve the $33 Billion worth of assistance for Ukraine in security, humanitarian, and economic support.

Business & Economy Current Affairs:

1. ICICI Bank launches digital ecosystem for MSMEs-

  • Private sector lender ICICI Bank launched a comprehensive digital ecosystem for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including customers of other banks.
  • The bank informed that the ecosystem offers an array of industry-first solutions, bringing forth a significant shift from the existing industry practice where banks offer services only to their customers.
  • It stated that the new ecosystem comprises three pillars: enhanced banking services for existing customers, a bouquet of banking services to MSMEs who are also customers of other banks, and a whole range of value-added services for all.
  • ICICI Bank said that anyone can avail of the benefits of its digital solutions by simply downloading the new version of the InstaBIZ app, or at the lender’s corporate internet banking platform.

2. USTR places India on the priority watch list once more- 

  • The United States Trade Representative (USTR) again placed India on the ‘Priority Watch List’ along with China, Russia, and four others, for lack of adequate intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and enforcement.
  • In its Annual Special 301 Report that identifies trade barriers to American companies due to IP laws of other countries, the USTR said that India remained one of the most challenging economies for IP enforcement and protection and the country’s overall IP enforcement was inadequate.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:

1. Anti-ship version of BrahMos missile successfully test-fired- 

  • An anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired jointly by the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
  • The Andaman and Nicobar Command is the only tri-services command of the Indian armed forces.

2. In a first, IndiGo uses an Indian navigation system to land aircraft-

  • An IndiGo-operated ATR 72-600 aircraft landed at the Kishangarh airport using an approach process guided by India’s satellite-based augmentation system named GAGAN, or GPS-aided GEO Augmented Navigation.
  • With this trial landing at the small airport near Ajmer in Rajasthan, India joined a small group comprising the US, Japan, and Europe with its satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS).

1. Aman Kadyan becomes the first Indian to qualify for the World Taekwondo Grand Prix-

  • Taekwondo star Aman Kadyan has become the first Indian to qualify for the World Taekwondo Grand Prix.
  • He is set to compete in Rome this year between June 3rd-5th.

1. International Jazz Day celebrated on 30th April-

  • In November 2011, the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed 30th April as “International Jazz Day”.
  • This International Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academicians, and jazz enthusiasts from all over the world to celebrate and learn about the art of jazz, its roots, its future, and its impact.
