1. The UIC International Sustainable Railways Awards (ISRA) is awarded to the Indian Railways-

  • Observing the World Environment Day on 5th June 2022, the Indian Railways has been maintaining and befitting the manner of this year’s theme of the day.
  • On 1st June 2022, in a ceremony in Berlin, Indian Railways have been awarded the UIC International Sustainable Railways Awards (ISRA).
  • Indian Railways won the award in the category of “Best use of Zero-Carbon Technology” for using Solar Energy directly to 25 KV AC Traction System.

2. Bill to remove Governor as ‘visitor’ to universities approved by West Bengal Cabinet-

  • The proposal to remove the governor as a visitor to private universities is approved by the West Bengal Cabinet.
  • The proposal to make Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee the chancellor of all state-run universities is also approved by the Cabinet.

3. National Tribal Research Institute to be inaugurated by Amit Shah in Delhi-

  • The National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) will be inaugurated by Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on 7th June 2022.
  • Reputed research institutes, universities, and organizations will collaborate with NTRI along with academic bodies and resource centers.
  • The aim behind the set up of the Tribal Research Institutes is to look after the improvement in the quality of research and training.

4. Lifestyle for Environment Movement launched by PM Modi-

  • The Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) movement is a global initiative launched by PM Narendra Modi to assert a vision to live a lifestyle that is at par with our planet and does not cause the planet any more harm.
  • ‘LiFE Global Call for Papers’ is also initiated with the launch inviting suggestions and ideas from academics, research institutes, and universities to influence individuals, communities, and organizations across the world to adopt an environment-conscious lifestyle.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is to embark on a 3-day visit to Vietnam-

  • Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, is to go on a three-day visit to Vietnam from 8th June 2022.
  • During his visit, he is to hand over twelve high-speed guard boats that are constructed under India’s 100 million US Dollars Defence Line of Credit.
  • To further strengthen the defense cooperation between the countries, Rajnath Singh is to hold bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Phan Van Giang.

1. India’s digital payments are expected to increase triple by 2026-

  • According to the reports issued by PhonePe, it is expected to witness a triple increase in digital payments in India by 2026.
  • Digital markets in India are expected to increase from the current three trillion dollars to ten trillion dollars in the coming four years, that is by 2026.
  • After the collaboration of PhonePe with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a report provided and titled ‘Digital Payments in India: A $10 Trillion Opportunity’, confirmed the assumption.
