Today’s National Current Affairs:

1. Civil Aviation Ministry’s UDAN scheme selected for Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020-

  • Civil Aviation Ministry flagship Regional Connectivity Scheme –  ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’, UDAN has been selected for Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 under the category Innovation (General) – Central.
  • The government has initiated this award to acknowledge, recognize, and reward extraordinary and innovative work done by Districts and Organizations of State and Government.
  • The Ministry said, the UDAN scheme emphasizes Good Governance, Qualitative achievements, and last-mile connectivity rather than only on achievement of quantitative targets.
  • The award consists of a trophy, scroll, and an incentive of ten lakh rupees. The Ministry of Civil Aviation will receive the award at the Civil Service Day function on the 21st of April.
  • In a short span of five years, 415 UDAN routes have connected 66 underserved and unserved airports, including heliports, and over 92 lakh people have benefited from it.
  • UDAN scheme has immensely benefitted several sectors pan-India including the Hilly States, North-Eastern region and Islands.

2. In a first, the Maharashtra app maps workers’ migration for portability of the ICDS scheme-

  • In a first-of-its-kind project in the country, the Maharashtra government has developed a website-based migration tracking system (MTS) application to map the movement of vulnerable seasonal migrant workers through individual unique identity numbers.
  • The state government’s women and child development (WCD) department launched it as a pilot project in six districts with a high tribal population including Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Amravati, Jalna, Palghar, and Nandurbar.
  • The MTS project is envisaged to maintain the continuity of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) like nutrition supply, immunization, health check-up, etc. to migrant beneficiaries including children aged up to 18 years, lactating mothers, and pregnant women registered with the Anganwadi centers.
  • Their migration will be tracked for ensuring the portability of the ICDS for their families in their destination districts within or outside the state until their return to their native places.

3. The 40th edition of Hunar Haat begins in Mumbai-

  • The 40th edition of Hunar Haat begins in Mumbai.
  • The 12-day event organized by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is aimed at providing exposure and employment opportunities to artisans, craftsmen, and traditional culinary experts from across the country.
  • The event held in Bandra Kurla Complex in the suburban area of Mumbai will be open to the public.

4. 33rd district announced in Chhattisgarh-

  • Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel delivered on his pre-poll promise and declared Khairagarh-Chuikhadaan-Gandai as Chhattisgarh’s 33rd district.
  • This is the sixth district declared in the state since Congress came to power in 2018.

5. Fuel, CNG price hike: Auto and cab drivers in Delhi are to go on a two days strike from today-

  • Auto, Taxi, and Cab Drivers’ Associations in Delhi have announced a two-day strike from today to protest against the escalating fuel and CNG prices.
  • The common people of Delhi are to face discomfort in their commute across the nation’s capital due to this surge of protest of the auto and cab drivers’ association.
  • The auto and cab drivers’ union is demanding that the fare rates are hiked and fuel prices are reduced.
  • The auto fares were last revised in 2019 and the taxi fares were revised in 2013.

6. Students seek cancellation of CBSE, CISCE Term 2 exams amid rising in Covid-19 cases-

  • The ICSE, ISC Semester exams 2022 are scheduled to commence on 25th April, and CBSE Term 2 exams are scheduled from 26th April.
  • As the Covid-19 cases are again on a rise in the country, especially in the nation’s capital Delhi, students who are to appear for the CBSE and CISCE exams are demanding cancellation of the exams.
  • Students and parents have taken to Twitter to demand their need of cancellation of the exam, asking for MCQ patterns, home centers, and other alternatives for the exam.

International Current Affairs:

1. Pakistan: New ruling alliance takes control of parliament with the new speaker-

  • Pakistan’s new ruling alliance took control of the lower house of parliament with the election of a new speaker.
  • With this, the new ruling alliance cemented control of the National Assembly after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted in a no-confidence vote.
  • The previous speaker and his deputy, both Imran Khan allies, had attempted to block and delay the vote, but the country’s Supreme Court intervened and ordered a vote.
  • The lower house of parliament eventually voted in favor of removing Mr. Khan from office.
  • The new ruling alliance has already elected their candidate, Shehbaz Sharif as the new Prime Minister.
  • The new speaker is Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, a former prime minister who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), part of the new ruling alliance. He was elected unopposed in the absence of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, which resigned en masse from the house.
  • If the resignations are accepted, Pakistan faces the prospect of close to 100 by-elections within two months, a major distraction for Shehbaz Sharif and his coalition partners and a potential platform for Imran Khan to mobilize support.

2. Biden to host leaders of ASEAN nations in Washington-

  • US President Joe Biden will host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders at a summit in Washington.
  • “The Special Summit will demonstrate the United States enduring commitment to ASEAN, recognizing its central role in delivering sustainable solutions to the region’s most pressing challenges, and commemorate 45 years of U.S.-ASEAN relations,”.

Business & Economy Current Affairs:

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to attend IMF, World Bank meets in the US-

  • Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be traveling to the United States beginning April 18 to attend several crucial meetings.
  • The finance minister will attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, the G20 Finance Ministers meeting, and the Central Bank Governor Meeting (FMCBG).
  • The visit will also include several bilateral interactions, including with Indonesia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and South Africa as well as a high-level meeting with World Bank President David Malpass.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:

1. PM Modi to launch India’s first dairy community radio Dudh Vani-

  • Dairy farmers in Gujarat will get a voice, quite literally, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates a community radio station (CRS) — Dudh Vani — dedicated to animal husbandry during his Gujarat tour.
  • Set up by the Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union or Banas Dairy, the Banas Dairy Community Radio station will connect over five lakh dairy farmers across 1,700 villages in the State.
  • This is set to become the country’s first community radio station dedicated to the cattle-breeders.

1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes first Indian pacer to scalp 150 wickets in IPL history-

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the first Indian pacer to reach the milestone of 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League history.

Miscellaneous Current Affairs:

1. Prabhat Patnaik to get Malcolm Adiseshiah Award-

  • Economist and political commentator Prabhat Patnaik will receive the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2022, according to the Malcolm and Elizebath Adiseshiah Trust statement.
  • The prestigious national award is given every year to an outstanding social scientist selected from nominations received by a national-level jury.
  • This year’s jury comprised professors Pulapre Balakrishnan, (IIM Calicut), Kamala Ganesh (former MN Srinivas Chair ISEC Bengaluru), and Bishnu Mohapatra (KREA University).
  • The jury unanimously selected Patnaik, who taught at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning in the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi and was vice-chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board.
  • The award comprises a citation and prize money of Rs 2 lakh. It will be presented at a special function in Chennai.

2. UP School becomes first in India to introduce esports as a part of extracurricular activities-

  • A Varanasi-based educational institute called Dalimss Sunbeam Group of Schools has become the first Indian school to officially introduce esports in its curriculum to encourage a new generation of learners.
  • Esports will be added as an extracurricular activity in the syllabus to improve overall performance and well-being.
  • Esports is being recognized globally as the future of sports and competition in a digital way and has amassed millions of players as well as viewers to date.
  • India is rising to come on the forefront of this growth and titles like BGMI and Valorant are trying to create a sustainable esports ecosystem locally.
  • The popularity of esports and its intense competition has also lured official bodies like AESF to encourage its growth and bring it onto the official stage such as Asian Games 2022.
  • India will be one of the participants in the esports medal event of the Asian Games.

3. World Heritage Day 2022-

  • The World Heritage Day is celebrated on 18 April annually.
  • Also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, this day is observed to highlight the global cultural heritage and the importance of maintaining it.
  • India, with its rich civilization and history has no dearth of historical monuments.
  • According to UNESCO, there are 40 World Heritage Sites in the country. This includes natural sites like the Kaziranga National Park in Assam and famous monuments like the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri.

4. Mynvax: India’s New Prospective Warm Vaccine against Covid-19- 

  • India is developing a prospective vaccine against COVID-19.
  • SarsCov2 is being developed that does not require refrigeration or storage in cold chains.
  • The warm vaccine is being developed by Mynvax laboratories, a Bangalore-based company that was incubated at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore.
  • This vaccine can be stored at 37 degrees Celsius for a period of four weeks and up to 90 minutes at 100 degrees Celsius.
