1. PM Modi to dedicate Gujarat’s first Indian Railways locomotive production unit to the nation-
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to dedicate to the nation Gujarat’s first locomotive production unit of Indian Railways.
- PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Dahod workshop to the manufacturing unit for the production of 9000 HP locomotives.
- These locos are equipped with Digital Tracking System (Kavach), which is an Automatic Train Protection System.
- These locos are to be manufactured with the use of green energy and to have a green manufacturing tag.
- With these locos, there will be a reduction in the logistic cost and decongestion of the saturated tracks by improving the average speed and loading capacity of freight trains.
- The 9000 HP locomotive is capable to haul a load of the 4500-tonne cargo load.
2. Rajnath Singh to inaugurate DefConnect 2.0 to woo investors in Delhi-
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to inaugurate DefConnect 2.0 organized by Innovations for Defence Excellence, Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO) in New Delhi.
- The event will attract a large number of innovators and investors from the country’s leading industries in the defense sector.
- It will include sessions with stalwarts of the industry, various announcements, and static exhibitions of an array of start-ups supported by iDEX-DIO.
- The DefConnect will provide a unique opportunity for innovators associated with iDEX-DIO to showcase their capabilities, products, and state-of-the-art technologies to the target audience of the industry leaders. The start-ups get to leverage this opportunity to generate investments and leads for future operations.
- This will be a unique opportunity to meet its start-ups and understand their innovative technologies being developed with requisite support from iDEX and the associated partners.
3. PM Modi to inaugurate the 7th edition of Raisina Dialogue on April 25-
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue on the 25th of April. President of the European Union Ursula Von Der Leyen will be the chief guest at the Dialogue.
- Several former Prime Ministers of different countries and other dignitaries will also participate in this virtual event.
- This three-day event is based on the theme – Terranova, impassioned, impatient, imperiled.
- There are six broad thematic pillars of the dialogue including Rethinking Democracy, End of Multilateralism, Water Caucuses, and Achieving Green Transitions.
- Raisina Dialogue will have around 100 sessions with over 210 speakers from 90 countries.
- The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs.
4. PM Modi releases coin, stamp on Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 400th Prakash Purab-
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative coin and postage stamp to mark the 400th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, on the 21st of April 2022.
- Modi also addressed the nation from the famous Red Fort to mark the celebration.
- “Guru Tegh Bahadur stood against Aurangzeb. The Red Fort is witness to Aurangzeb’s atrocities. The Guru’s sacrifice protected our values”, added Modi.
5. India’s First Pure Green Hydrogen Plant-
- Recently, Oil India Limited (OIL) has commissioned India’s first 99.999% Pure Green Hydrogen Pilot Plant at its Jorhat Pump Station in Assam.
- The installed capacity of the plant is 10kg per day.
- The AEM technology used for this plant is India’s usage of the technology.
- The Green Hydrogen production plant uses electricity generated by an existing 500 kW solar plant using a 100kW Ion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer array.
6. Launch of the ‘Jan Nigrani’ App-
- Recently, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Jammu and Kashmir, launched the ‘Jan Nigrani’ app under the E-Governance initiative.
- The purpose of the app is to help people register complaints against various schemes online.
International Current Affairs:
1. Maldives President Solih bans ‘India Out’ campaign-
- Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih issued a decree banning the ‘India Out’ campaign, now led by former President Abdulla Yameen, terming it a “threat to national security.”
- The ‘India Out’ campaign, started and sustained by critics of the Solih administration, gained prominence in recent months with former President Yameen spearheading it.
- The campaign accuses the Maldivian government of “allowing” Indian military presence in the island nation – the government has repeatedly denied it – and, of “being a puppet” of New Delhi.
- President Solih has opted for an ‘India first’ foreign policy and has said he is unapologetic about Male’s close ties with New Delhi.
2. Russia successfully test-launched the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile-
- Russia announced that it successfully test-launched a Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile at a time when Moscow-West tensions have sharply escalated over Ukraine.
Business & Economy Current Affairs:
1. RBI ‘State of the economy’ report: ‘Global policy tightening may precipitate rocketing inflation’-
- Cautioning on the ‘grim’ near-term global outlook, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said the surge in commodity prices is already posing inflation risks, especially through the conduit of surging imports.
- “Rapidly widening trade and current account deficits co-existing with portfolio capital outflows weigh on external sustainability, although the strength of underlying fundamentals and the stock of international reserves provide buffers,” the RBI said in its ‘State of the economy’ report.

2. Telangana Government Launches SpaceTech Framework On Metaverse-
- The Telangana government launched its SpaceTech Framework, with a vision to establish the state as a globally recognized one-stop destination for space technology.
- The framework aims to encourage private participation in the space industry in line with the recent reforms by the Union government.

1. A ‘double ridge’ in Greenland hints at the possibility of life on Jupiter’s icy Europa-
- The discovery and study of a ‘double ridge’ geographical feature in Greenland have led Stanford researchers to conclude that Jupiter’s icy moon Europa is a prime candidate to find life in this solar system.
- This double ridge feature is extremely common on the Galilean moon’s surface.
- Europa’s deep saltwater oceans and the possibility of life in them have captivated the imagination of scientists for decades.
- But it is enclosed by an icy shell that could be many kilometers thick.
- However, new research suggests that this shell could be less of a barrier to life and more of a potential site for life by itself.
- After further examination, they found that the M-shaped crest discovered in Greenland is known as a double ridge and that it could be a miniature version of a feature that is prominent in Europe.
2. Astronomers discover the ‘most distant galaxy ever’-
- An international team of astronomers has discovered the most distant astronomical object of all time: a galaxy.
- Shining only about 300 million years after the Big Bang, it may contain the oldest stars in the universe or a supermassive black hole.
- The team proposes two ideas: HD1 may be forming stars at an astounding rate and is possibly even home to Population III stars, the universe’s very first stars — which, until now, have never been observed. Alternatively, HD1 may contain a supermassive black hole about 100 million times the mass of our Sun.

1. V. President Venkaiah Naidu to inaugurate Khelo India University Games in Bengaluru-
- The Khelo India University Games set to be inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in Bengaluru will see the participation of Olympians.
- According to the Sports Authority of India, Tokyo Olympians Srihari Nataraj representing Swimming, Manu Bhaker in Shooting, and Dutee Chand in Athletics will be competing in the Games.
- During the second edition of the games, two new disciplines namely Yogasana and Mallakhamb are added for the first time. This is an effort to preserve and promote the century-old sporting disciplines of the country.

2. Earth Day 2022-

- The day is observed to mark the anniversary of the modern movement initiated to protect our environment which began more than 50 years.
- The search giant, Google, is also dedicating artwork of Google Doodle on the occasion of Earth Day started in 1970 to show how climate change is affecting the climate.
