1. Dr. Suman K Bery appointed new vice chairman of Niti Aayog-

  • Dr. Suman K Bery has been appointed new Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog. He will take charge as Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog from the 1st of next month.
  • Dr. Suman K Bery had earlier served as Director-General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) in New Delhi.
  • NCAER is one of the country’s leading independent non-profit policy research institutions.
  • He also served as a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, National Statistical Commission, and Reserve Bank of India’s Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy.

2. NITI Aayog to organize a day-long national workshop on ‘Innovative Agriculture’ on April 25-

  • As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, NITI Aayog is organizing a day-long national workshop on ‘Innovative Agriculture’.
  • The workshop is expected to bring together stakeholders working in the field of innovative agriculture and natural-farming practices from India and abroad.
  • Deliberations will be held in key areas related to the promotion of natural farming, its role in soil health restoration, and climate change mitigation.

3. Agriculture Ministry to organize ‘Kisan Bhagidari, Prathmikta Hamari’ campaign-

  • Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is organizing the ‘Kisan Bhagidari, Prathmikta Hamari’ campaign.
  • The campaign is being organized under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in association with various other Ministries and Departments.
  • The Department of Agriculture Research and Education would be organizing a Krishi Mela at each Krishi Vigyan Kendra and a field exhibition on natural farming.
  • Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will launch the country-wide workshop on crop insurance organized by the common service center (CSC). A National Atma Nirbhar Bharat Conclave of 75 selected farmers and entrepreneurs will be under the campaign.
  • Milestones of agriculture development in 75 years of Indian Independence including Green Revolution: Self-sufficiency in food grain production will be highlighted during the campaign.

4. PM Modi to inaugurate the seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue-

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue tomorrow. President of the European Union Ursula Von Der Leyen will be the chief guest at the Dialogue.
  • Several former Prime Ministers of different countries and other dignitaries will also participate in this virtual event.
  • The three-day Dialogue is based on the theme – Terranova, impassioned, impatient, and imperiled.
  • There are six broad thematic pillars of the Dialogue including Rethinking Democracy, End of Multilateralism, Water Caucuses, and Achieving Green Transitions.
  • Raisina Dialogue will have around 100 sessions with over 210 speakers from 90 countries.
  • The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference committed to addressing the most challenging issues facing the global community.
  • Every year, global leaders in policy, business, media, and civil society are hosted in New Delhi to discuss cooperation on a wide range of pertinent international policy matters.
  • The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs.

International Current Affairs:

1. World’s first supercar ownership NFT series is launched in Dubai-

  • The world’s first supercar ownership NFT series launched in Dubai with the first three NFTs selling within minutes.
  • Named Project Black, the scheme allows 12 NFT buyers to co-own and co-consume the almost impossible-to-get AMG luxury supercar.

Business & Economy Current Affairs:

1. RBI asks borrowers with a total exposure of Rs. 5 crores and above to obtain LEI-

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has prescribed a timeline for non-individual borrowers enjoying aggregate exposure of Rs.5 crore and above from banks and financial institutions to obtain Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) codes.
  • LEI has been conceived as a key measure to improve the quality and accuracy of financial data systems for better risk management post the global financial crisis.
  • LEI is a 20-digit unique code to identify parties to financial transactions worldwide.

2. NSE to launch India’s first international ESG platform at GIFT IFSC-

  • NSE IFSC Ltd is launching an International Sustainability Platform, a first-of-its-kind ESG platform in India, at GIFT IFSC.
  • It is expected to get operationalized in the second half of 2022 subject to regulatory approvals.
  • The platform will facilitate the listing and trading of a variety of sustainability products including Green Bonds, Voluntary Carbon, Sustainable Bonds, Green REITs, and Green Equity, and channel the flow of sustainable finance to India and other markets.
  • Locating it in GIFT City will facilitate international investors to participate in Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) transitions in India and other markets.
  • NSE IFSC is a 100 percent subsidiary of NSE.
  • ECube Investment Advisors, an ESG-focused platform, and Chainflux, a blockchain products firm, are working closely with NSE IFSC in operationalizing the same.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:

1. Gujarat Biotech University researchers developing technologies to manufacture carbon-free fuel-

  • Researchers at Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) are developing technologies to produce carbon-free fuel which can eventually reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a green environment.
  • With the vision of making a “green process concept”, the research group is working on “whole-cell bio-catalysis” (WCB) for the synthesis of green fuels and biopolymers.
  • The team claimed that the process is not only low-cost but also easily scalable on the industrial size.
  • The university has been established in partnership with the University of Edinburgh (UoE), United Kingdom, by the Department of Science and Technology, Gujarat.

1. ICC appoints Pakistan’s Wasim Khan as its General Manager-Cricket-

  • The ICC appointed Wasim Khan, the former chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, as its General Manager – Cricket to succeed Geoff Allardice.
  • Khan, was also previously the Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Chance to Shine. He last held the post of PCB CEO.

1. David Attenborough receives the UN’s most distinguished environment award-

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has awarded David Attenborough the Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to research, documentation, and advocacy for the protection of nature and its restoration.
  • Attenborough’s career as a broadcaster, natural historian, author, and environmental advocate spans over seven decades.
  • He is most famous for his work with the BBC’s Natural History Unit, including documentaries such as Life on Earth, the Living Planet, Our Planet, and Our Blue Planet.

2. International Mother Earth Day 22nd April-

  • International Mother Earth Day was established in 2009, by the United Nations General Assembly under Resolution.
  • The Resolution was introduced by The Plurinational State of Bolivia and endorsed by over 50 member states.
  • It recognizes that “the Earth and its ecosystems are our home” and that “it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.”
  • The term Mother Earth is used because it “reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species, and the planet we all inhabit”.
  • It is decided to designate April 22 as International Mother Earth Day.
  • The topic of this year’s annual event, “Invest in Our Planet,” has been chosen.

3. 24th April Celebrated as the National Panchayati Raj Day-

  • Every year the 24th of April is commemorated as the National Panchayati Raj Day in India.
  • The day is marked as a national holiday to honor the Panchayati Raj system in India. 
  • In 1992, the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act was also passed on the 24th of April, and the day also marks this occasion.
