1. The 3rd Global Organic Expo 2022 begins in New Delhi-

  • This year the theme is ‘Profitability for Humanity’.
  • Previously, more than 200 organic products and service companies participated in the events.

2. A tragic road accident in the valley of Ladakh kills seven Army jawans and injures 19 other jawans-

  • Seven Army jawans were killed and 19 are injured in a tragic road accident in the Turtuk sector of Ladakh.
  • The bus carrying 26 soldiers was moving from a transit camp in Partapur to a forward location in sub-sector Hanif in the Turtuk forward area.
  • The bus skidded off the road and fell 60 feet down into the Shyok River in the Turtuk sector.

3. USA President Joe Biden orders to improve accountability in policy-

  • US President Joe Biden has recently signed an executive order to improve accountability in the policy.
  • The order was signed on the second death anniversary of George Floyd, i.e., on the 28th of May 2022.
  • The aim of the policy is to regulate the use of force and misconduct of officers.
  • The order will also analyze the impact of facial recognition software on civil liberties and how to control the spread of COVID-19 in federal prisons and improve data collection regarding police practices.

4. India’s GDP growth to be 8.2-8.5 percent in FY22, according to the SBI report-

  • Ecowrap, the State Bank of India’s research paper states that India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate will be 8.2-8.5 percent in the FY22.

5. Gujarat Titans bags the IPL 2022 trophy-

  • Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2022 finals and lift the trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 29th May 2022.
  • This was the 15th year of the Twenty20 cricket league established by BCCI.

6. A new species of the old world monkey in Arunachal Pradesh named after Sela Pass-

  • “The Sela Macaque”, a new species of the old world monkey was geographically separated from the Arunachal Macaque by the eastern Himalayan pass Sela which is located at an altitude of 13,700 feet.
  • A team of experts from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the University of Calcutta identified and analyzed the Sela Macaque, the new-to-science primate.

1. Bihar has India’s largest gold reserve-

  • 88 million tonnes of gold along with 27.6 tonnes of mineral-rich ore are present in the Jamui district of Bihar, stated the Geological Survey of India.
  • Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has permitted to explore what is now being called the largest gold reserve in India.

2. A five-member drafting committee formed by Uttarakhand to implement the Uniform Civil Code-

  • Uttarakhand government has announced to set up a five-member drafting committee to implement the debated Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.
  • Ranjana Desai, the retired Supreme Court Judge is the head of the committee.
  • The other members are Pramod Kohli the Delhi High Court judge, Shatrughan Sinha, Manu Gaud, and Surekha Dangwal, the ex-chief secretaries.

3. The population of China is shrinking for the first time since the Great Famine-

  • There is a rapid decline in China’s working-class population which peaked in 2014 and will shrink to one-third by 2100.
  • This situation for China is a first since the Great Famine 60 years ago.

4. At the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, INS Gomati is decommissioned-

  • Under the command of Captain Sudip Mallik, the INS Gomati was decommissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
  • INS Gomati was the third ship of the Godavari class guided missile frigates.
  • The ship was also one of the oldest warriors of the western fleet when it got decommissioned.
  • The ship got its name from the river Gomti when it was commissioned on 16th April 1988 by the then Defence Minister KC Pant.

5. Supernovas beat Velocity: Women’s T20 2022-

  • In the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022, Supernovas gets a four-run victory over Velocity in the finals.
  • Deandra Dottin, West Indies T20 specialists, shined through the match and brought a record third Women’s T20 Challenge title triumph over Velocity.
  • The Women’s T20 is organized by the BCCI which is an Indian women’s 20-20 tournament.

6. 31st May 2022 observed as World No Tobacco Day-

  • Globally 31st May is observed as World No Tobacco Day.
  • The day is commemorated to raise awareness among the global citizens about the dangers of the use of tobacco.

1. Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka, launched the AAYU app-

  • A new health and wellness app, AAYU, is launched by the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai.
  • The aim behind the launch of the app is to address and help heal chronic diseases and lifestyle disorders through yoga.
  • In collaboration with Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) the app is built with RESET TECH, an AI-based health-tech platform that strives to deal with chronic diseases and lifestyle conditions through yoga and meditation.

2. Popular singer KK passes away at the age of 53 after a performance in Kolkata-

  • Krishnakumar Kunnath, KK, after a live performance Vivekananda College Fest at Nazrul Manch Kolkata on 31st May 2022, passes away.
  • According to a report, the singer felt unwell while his performance and collapsed after returning to his hotel.
  • He was rushed to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) and was announced brought dead.
  • The evergreen singer has left behind hoards of songs in various Indian languages.

3. 2/3rd of Russia’s oil import ban agreed by EU-

  • On the first day of the special Europen Council meeting in Brussels, the European Union leaders have agreed to ban more than 2/3rd of Russian oil with immediate effect.
  • Charles Michel, the European Council President, announced on 31st May 2022.
  • The purpose behind the ban is to put pressure on Russia to end the war with Ukraine.
  • The only catch in the announcement is that Viktor Orban, the Hungarian Prime Minister, has demanded an exemption from the Russian oil import ban.

4. Ahead of BTS’s meeting with Biden in the White House, the band draws a massive crowd and support-

  • The superstar K-pop group BTS delivered their special remarks on the AAPI campaign ahead of their meeting with Joe Biden, the President of the USA.
  • Around 313,000 viewers tuned into their screens for their White House briefing live stream where each of the seven members delivered their remarks in their native language.
  • The band through their remarks spread the message of cultural acceptance and how their music has gained such popularity worldwide because of such acceptance.

5. Tau Herculids Meteor Shower: a historic celestial moment-

6. India received its first-ever medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix- 

  • India bagged its first-ever medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan.
  • 18 out of the 21 countries that participated in the tournament have won medals.
  • Judoka Kapil Parmar, the Indian blind and para Judo Association receives the credit for bringing such honor to the country.

4. New handgun ownership law introduced in Canada to control gun ownership-

  • Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, has introduced new legislation that aims to implement ‘some of the hardest gun control measures, including a ‘freeze’ on handgun purchases and sales in the country.
  • During a press conference in Ottawa, Trudeau mentioned the succession of mass shootings in Canada and the recent assault in the United States as part of his government’s motivation to propose the C-21 Bill.

5. Darren Sammy, former West Indies skipper, is conferred with the Sitara-e-Pakistan award-

  • Darren Sammy, the former West Indies captain, has received the Sitara-e-Pakistan Award for services to Pakistan.

5. Rs. 86,912 crores distributed to the States by the Center and GST compensation debts settled-

  • The Central government handed Rs. 86,912 crore to the state government.
  • The Center also compensated them for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) despite having roughly Rs. 25,000 crore in the GST compensation pool.

6. NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope Images to be released soon-

  • From a distance of 15,00,000 kilometers away, the James Webb Space Telescope will send back its first full-color images and spectroscopic data on 12th July 2022.
  • This is the largest and most complex observatory launched into space.

7. India wins bronze after defeating Japan in the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup-

  • India won bronze after defeating Japan in the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
  • This is India’s second bronze medal at the Asia Cup.

8. 2nd June 2022 observed as Telangana Formation Day-

  • India’s 28th state Telangana was founded on 2nd June 2014.

1. Delhi’s streets and colonies to be named after Babasaheb Ambedkar-

  • According to the Central government’s guideline that has advised against the usage of the term ‘Harijan’, the Delhi government will now remove the word ‘Harijan’ from the names of colonies and streets.
  • The streets and colonies are now to be named after Babasaheb Ambedkar.
  • Rajendra Pal Gautam, the Social Welfare Minister, has proposed to rename all the streets and colonies of Delhi that are titled ‘Harijan’ to Dr. Ambedkar’s name.

2. Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission integrates ‘eSanjeevani’-

  • eSanjeevani has been successfully integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital, announced the National Health Authority (NHA).
  • This collaboration will allow the existing users of eSanjeevani to create their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) and can utilize it to link and manage their existing health records.
  • Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s telemedicine service is eSanjeevani.

3. Anjalai Ponnusamy, the freedom fighter, passes away at the age of 102-

  • Anjalai Ponnumsamy, the freedom fighter who fought against the Britishers for India’s freedom, breathed her last at the age of 102.
  • Anjalai in her prime age of 21 had joined the Rani of Jhansi Regiment, the women’s regiment of the Indian National Army.

4. Turkey’s request to change the name to Turkiye approved by the United Nations-

  • On 1st June, the United Nations approved Turkey’s request to change its name to Turkiye.
  • Since December 2021, Turkey had began its move to be internationally recognized in the English name Turkiye.
  • After its independence in 1923, the country declared itself as Turkiye.

5. Meta’s new Chief Operating Officer to be Javier Olivan-

  • The current chief growth officer of the Meta platform, Javier Olivan is to take over as the company’s chief operating officer.
  • Sheryl Sandberg, the former chief operating officer has stepped down from the post.
  • Olivan will now be responsible for business products and advertising while also looking after the infrastructure and corporate development.

6. Uttarakhand nestles the country’s first liquid mirror telescope-

  • Devasthal, a hill in Uttarakhand is commissioned to hold the country’s first liquid mirror telescope.
  • The liquid mirror telescope will be the largest in Asia.
  • The telescope will now help to keep a watch on the sky and identify variable or transient objects such as supernovae, gravitational lenses, space debris, and asteroids.
