Today’s National Current Affairs:
1. Srinagar becomes the country’s first district to achieve 100% saturation under SVAMITVA Yojana-
- The Srinagar district has become the first district in the country to achieve 100 percent saturation under the Survey of Villages Abadi & Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) Yojna.
- Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha tweeted by stating that the Srinagar district has become the first district in the country to achieve 100 percent property cards generation/distribution to the landowners.
- Furthermore, through ‘Aapki Zameen, Aapki Nigrani’, any landholder can view his/her land records online without the need to visit an office physically.
2. First-ever EU-India Trade and Technology Council launched-
- To further deepen cooperation in the field of security, technology, and trade, India and the EU have launched the first EU-India Trade and Technology Council.
- For India, it is the first time to have a mechanism like this with any of its partners and for the European Union, this is the second time.
- The US is the first with which the EU has such a system in place.
- The Strategic Coordination mechanism launched at the end of talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is expected to allow the two partners to deal with the emerging challenges and will help build deeper cooperation between the two sides.
3. 1st edition of the 4-day Naval Commanders’ Conference commences in New Delhi-
- The first edition of the four-day Naval Commanders’ Conference commenced in New Delhi.
- All Operational and Area Commanders of the Indian Navy are participating in the conference to review major Operational, Materiel, Logistics, Human Resource Development, Training, and Administrative activities.
- The conference will focus on addressing the contemporary security paradigms while seeking ways to enhance the combat capability of the Navy and make operations more effective and efficient.
- A detailed review of the performance of weapons and sensors, and ongoing Naval projects – with a focus on ways to enhance indigenization through ‘Make in India’ will be undertaken by the Commanders.
- The conference would also dwell upon the dynamics of the geostrategic situation of the region in the backdrop of recent international developments.
- The Commanders’ Conference is being conducted in the newly set up state-of-the-art facility at Defence Offices Complex at Africa Avenue in New Delhi.
4. Govt sets target to eliminate Malaria from the country by 2030-
- Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has said that the government is working on a comprehensive plan for the elimination of Malaria and Tuberculosis from the country.
- He said the government has set a target of eliminating Malaria from the country by 2030 and making the country TB free by 2025.
- Dr. Mandaviya said that in the days to come, the Health Ministry will launch a comprehensive drive to achieve the goals of eliminating TB and Malaria.
- The Health Minister informed that the country has registered around 86 percent decline in Malaria cases and around 79 percent decline in deaths due to Malaria since 2015.
- He called for collective efforts from all the stakeholders to eliminate malaria from the country.
International Current Affairs:
1. Israel embassy unveils street-art mural in Delhi to mark 30 years of friendship-
- The Israeli embassy in India has collaborated with Delhi Street Art to conceive and execute a wall art project – to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
- The mural was designed by Delhi Street Art’s founder Yogesh Saini and his team. It took them seven days to prepare the art.
- “This project represents the shared history and friendship between India and Israel.
- The people of both nations together will celebrate 75 years of India’s independence and 30 years of diplomatic relations,”.
2. Slovenia Polls: Liberal newcomer Robert Golob defeats three-time PM Janez Janša-
- In Slovenia, political newcomer liberal Robert Golob has defeated three-time prime minister, populist conservative Janez Janša, in a country split by bitter political divisions over the rule of law.
- After counting over 97 percent of the ballots, state election authorities said that the Freedom Movement won nearly 34 percent of the votes, compared to around 24 percent for the governing conservative Slovenian Democratic Party.
3. Emmanuel Macron was re-elected for a second consecutive term as President of France-
- Emmanuel Macron has won a second term in France’s presidential election with 58.2 percent of the vote.
- Macron’s far-right challenger Marine Le Pen won 41.8 percent of the vote in an election that saw the country’s highest abstention rate in 50 years.
- 44-year-old Macron looks set to become the first president since Chirac two decades ago to secure a second term in office.

1. World military expenditure passes $2 trillion for 1st time; India in 3rd place: SIPRI-
- The global military expenditure has crossed the USD 2 trillion mark for the first time, with the US, the world’s largest economy, being the top spender, Sweden-based defense think-tank SIPRI said.
- India is in the third position. In its latest report, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said that the total global military expenditure increased by 0.7 percent in real terms in 2021, to reach USD 2,113 billion.
- “The five largest spenders in 2021 were the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, and Russia, together accounting for 62 percent of expenditure,” it said.
2. Gautam Adani surpasses Warren Buffett to become the fifth richest in the world-
- Adani group chairman Gautam Adani has overtaken Warren Buffett as the fifth richest in the world.
- According to Forbes, the 59-year-old Adani, who has interests in businesses from ports to power, surpassed the legendary investor after his net worth reached $123.7 billion compared to Buffet’s $121.7 billion.
- With a net worth of $123.7 billion, Adani reached the fifth spot and is behind Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates ($130.2 billion), Bernard Arnault ($167.9 billion), and Jeff Bezos ($170.2 billion), and Elon Musk ($269.7 billion).
3. Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter gets accepted by the company-
- Billionaire Elon Musk had offered to buy Twitter, a social media company, for $44 Billion on Monday, i.e., the 25th of April 2022.
- Twitter, the company in the discussion, has accepted Elon Musk’s offer.
- Musk had earlier bid $54.20-per-share for the company around April 14th, 2022.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:
1. Researchers develop solar energy storage and transport technology without the need for solar panels-
- Researchers at the Chalmers University in Sweden and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University have come up with a technique to harvest, store and transport solar energy and then derive electricity from it.
- All of this will be possible without the use of conventional photovoltaic cells or batteries.
- The researchers have documented this technology in an article titled, “Storing energy with molecular photoisomers,” published in the journal Joule in December 2021.
- With their MOST (Molecular Solar Thermal Energy Storage Systems) technology, the researchers successfully devised a method to store solar energy as chemical energy within a special kind of molecule, for up to 18 years.
- This molecule changes its chemical properties when it comes in contact with sunlight and stores some of that energy within new chemical bonds.
- This chemical energy can then be released in the form of thermal energy with the addition of a catalyst if and when required.
- The device can be used to store solar energy when sunlight is available and provide thermal energy when it is not.

- Reigning Formula One world champion Max Verstappen and Jamaican Olympic sprint queen Elaine Thompson-Herah Winners won the top honors at the 2022 Laureus World Sports Awards.
- Leading an illustrious group of sports stars honored by the Laureus World Sports Academy, Verstappen and Thompson-Herah were named World Sportsman of the Year and World Sportswoman of the Year.

1. World Malaria Day is observed-
- World Malaria Day is celebrated and observed on 25 April every year.
- It is an occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment to malaria prevention and control.
- World Malaria Day was instituted by the WHO Member States during the World Health Assembly of 2007.
- This year the theme is -Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives.
- Malaria is a disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
- It is preventable and curable. Malaria symptoms include high fever, chills, headache, and other flu-like symptoms.
