1. The first metro city that gets its biodiversity registered is Kolkata-

  • Kolkata becomes the first metro city in the country to prepare a detailed biodiversity register.
  • KMC, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation prepared the People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) that has a detail about the flora and fauna varieties in the city along with its land use and human activities.
  • The biodiversity management committee (BMC) under the supervision of the state biodiversity board and with the help of NGOs has prepared the document.
  • Other cities that have prepared the document are Chandigarh and Indore.

2. India’s biggest drone festival is to be inaugurated by PM Modi today-

  • The Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022 is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
  • The Drone Festival of India will be a platform for discussions on accelerating drones and their component manufacturing in India.
  • The event will be hosted in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
  • It is to be a two-day event that will welcome participants from around 1600 delegates including foreign diplomats, armed forces, government officials, PSUs, drone startups, and other private companies.

International Current Affairs 

1. The biggest K-Pop boy band BTS is invited to the White House by Joe Biden-

  • To stop the Asian hate, USA President Joe Biden has invited BTS, the biggest K-Pop boy band, to the White House.
  • The widely popular group consisting of seven members- RM, Suga, Jin, J-Hope, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook, are to visit the White House on the 31st of May as special guests.
  • The White House announced that the band and their ARMY, their fans, are going to be the propagator to stop Asian hate and “to discuss Asian inclusion and representation and to address anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination”.

1. Trade transactions with Sri Lanka that are allowed by the RBI are to be settled in Indian rupees-

  • The permission for trade transactions with Sri Lanka is permitted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and is to be handled in Indian Rupees (INR).
  • The transaction is to take place outside the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) mechanism because of the problem faced by the exporters in getting revenues from the island country.
  • A term loan of $1 billion is guaranteed by the Indian government to Sri Lanka by the State Bank of India to help acquire vital commodities and services such as food, gasoline, medicine, and industrial raw materials.

1. Supercomputer Param Porul inaugurated at NIT Tiruchirapalli-

  • Under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) a supercomputer named Param Porul was inaugurated at NIT Tiruchirapalli.
  • The NSM is a joint of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Electronics and Informative Technology (MeitY).

2. A 2km wide asteroid to fly past Earth on 27th May 2022-

  • An asteroid, twice the size of the world’s largest skyscraper Burj Khalifa, is to make a close approach to Earth on 27th May 2022.
  • The asteroid is deemed to be potentially hazardous.
  • NASA has issued a warning and has named the Asteroid 7335 (1989 JA).
  • The asteroid is hurtling fast towards Earth and will make its closest approach to the NASA plant at 7:56 PM (IST) on 27th May 2022.

1. A 3-member committee is appointed by the SC to oversee the functioning of AIFF-

  • The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is to get a 3 member committee appointed by the Supreme Court to oversee its affairs.
  • The committee is to bring in changes in accordance with the National Sports Code and model guidelines and will be led by the former apex court judge AR Dave.

Miscellaneous Current Affairs

1. “Tomb of Sand”, the Indian Novel, wins the International Booker Prize-

  • Geetanjali Shree, the Indian writer, and Daisy Rockwell, the American translator won the International Booker Prize for the novel “Tomb of Sand”.
  • The book was originally written in Hindi and it is the first Indian language book to win such a high-profile award.
  • The 50,000 pounds won by the duo will be split between them.
