National Current Affairs-

1. Repeal of 3 farm laws a setback for doubling farmers’ income: Niti member-

  • Niti member Ramesh Chand predicts the farm sector growth to be around 3% in FY22 and can improve in FY23 if monsoon and other conditions are favorable. 
  • He stressed that reforms are necessary for the agriculture sector and that the repeal of the three farm laws has come as a ‘setback’ to higher price realization by cultivators and could be a factor in achieving the goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
  • He also suggested to starting fresh consultations with the states for resuming the agriculture reform process, adding some people have already approached Niti Ayog with a call for effecting the reforms.

2. Govt gears up to unveil PMs’ museum, Modi to inaugurate on April 14-

  • The prime ministers’ museum at Teen Murti Bhavan is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on April 14.
  • The new museum, spread over 10,491 square meters, is equipped with the latest technologies such as holograms, augmented reality, interactive kiosks and screens, kinetic sculptures, and smartphone applications.

3. Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates Gujarat’s first Indo-Pak border viewing point at Nadabet-

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a viewing point at the India-Pakistan International Border at Nadabet in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat.
  • The Seema Darshan Project is aimed at increasing tourist footfalls in the region.
  • It is being developed in line with the Wagah-Attari border. 
  • However, there will be no military drill as such between the troops of India and Pakistan.

4. Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Meet Held In India For First Time-

  • Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla took a leaf out of parliamentarians for the inauguration of the mid-year executive committee meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, which will be held for the first time in India in Guwahati.
  • Representatives from 53 Commonwealth countries and nine regions will participate in the meeting.
  • The CPA is composed of branches formed in parliaments and legislatures in Commonwealth countries, which subscribe to parliamentary democracy.
  • The CPA aims to promote knowledge and understanding about parliamentary democracy, especially good governance, transparency and accountability and respect for the rule of law, and individual rights and freedoms.
  • The CPA is a 100-year old organization.
  • It is a matter of honor that the CPA mid-year executive committee meeting will be held for the first time in India, in Guwahati.
  • The meeting will focus on how to make parliamentary democratic systems more egalitarian.

5. Govt constitutes AVGC promotion task force for serving Indian markets and global demand-

  • The government has constituted a promotion task force for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics, AVGC to recommend ways to realize and build domestic capacity for serving Indian markets and the global demand.
  • The AVGC sector in the country has the potential to become the torchbearer of Create in India and Brand India.
  • The Task Force will be headed by the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • The I&B Ministry said, the country has the potential to capture 40 billion dollars of the global market share by the year 2025, with an annual growth of around 25 to 30 percent and creating over one lakh 60 thousand new jobs annually. 
  • The Task Force also includes State Governments of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and heads of education bodies such as the All India Council of Technical Education, National Council of Educational Research and Training, and representatives of industry bodies.
  • The Ministry said, the creation of the promotion Task Force with the participation of Central Government, State Governments, and key industry players will provide a focused thrust for the growth of the sector.
  • The Task Force will frame a national AVGC policy and boost employment opportunities.
  • It will recommend a national curriculum framework for Graduation, Post-Graduation, and Doctoral courses in AVGC related sectors. 
  • The task force will submit its first action plan within 90 days.

International Current Affairs:

1. Nepal suspends Central Bank Governor amid forex woes-

  • In a rare move, the Nepal Government has suspended the country’s Central Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari over disagreements with Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma and for not doing enough to pull the economy from the doldrums.
  • This is only the second instance that a sitting governor, who enjoys a five-year tenure, was suspended.

Today’s Business & Economy Current Affairs:

1. Sebi sets up working groups to review the roles of sponsors, trustees of MFs-

  • Sebi formed two working groups to review the role and eligibility of a sponsor of a mutual fund to facilitate growth and innovation in the industry and to streamline the role and obligations of trustees of such financial instruments.
  • The working group for reviewing the role and eligibility of an MF’s sponsor will be chaired by A Balasubramanian, MD, and CEO of Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, and chairman of industry body AMFI, while the other group constituted to streamline the role and obligations of trustees of MFs headed by Manoj Vaish, Independent Trustee of Mirae Mutual Fund.

Science & Technology Current Affairs:

1. Indian Army, DRDO successfully flight test Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System and Pinaka Area Denial Munition rocket system-

  • Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System EPRS and Pinaka Area Denial Munition ADM rocket systems have been successfully flight-tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO and Indian Army at Pokhran Firing Ranges.
  • A total of 24 EPRS rockets were fired for different ranges.
  • Required accuracy and consistency were achieved by the rockets meeting all trial objectives satisfactorily.
  • With these trials, the initial phase of technology absorption of EPRS by the industry has successfully been completed and the industry partners are ready for user trials or series production of the rocket system.
  • The Pinaka rocket system has been developed by Armament Research and Development Establishment, Pune supported by High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, another Pune-based laboratory of DRDO.
  • The EPRS is the upgraded version of the Pinaka variant which has been in service with the Indian Army.
  • The system has been upgraded with advanced technologies enhancing the range to meet the emerging requirements.
  • After establishing the performance efficacy of the enhanced range version of Pinaka, the technology was transferred to the industries, Munitions India Limited MIL and Economic Explosives Limited Nagpur. 
  • Rockets manufactured by MIL under Transfer of Technology from DRDO were flight tested during this campaign.
  • Different variants of munitions that can be used in the Pinaka rocket system were also successfully test evaluated in the Pokhran Field Firing Range.

Sports Current Affairs:

1. Shikhar Dhawan scripts history, becomes 1st Indian to hit 1000 boundaries in T20s-

  • Shikhar Dhawan scripted history by becoming the first Indian batter to complete 1,000 boundaries in T20 cricket.
  • The Indian opener became the 5th batter overall in world cricket as he joined an elite list of cricketers, including West Indies’s great Chris Gayle.

2. Squash: Dipika Pallikal, Saurav Ghosal win India’s first gold medal at WSF World Doubles Championships-

  • In a historic win for India, the squash mixed duo of Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal brought home India’s first-ever gold medal at the World Doubles Squash Championships.
  • Dipika won her second gold medal in the women’s doubles finals with Joshna Chinappa after defeating Sarah-Jane Perry and Alison Waters of England.

Today’s Miscellaneous Current Affairs:

1. 12th April as International Day of Human Space Flight- 

  • The General Assembly declared 12th April as the International Day of Human Space Flight “to celebrate each year at the international level the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of States and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.”
  • 12th April 1961 was the date of the first human space flight, carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen.
  • This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity.

2. LG Manoj Sinha flags off ‘Athwaas’, a unique partnership between citizens and authorities to rejuvenate the Dal Lake-

  • Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off ‘Athwaas’, a unique partnership between citizens and authorities for the rejuvenation of the world-famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Lieutenant Governor said that the de-weeding and dredging will be conducted in collaboration with the citizens.
  • He observed that dedicated efforts have been made in the last two years to clean Dal Lake and for the conservation and protection of other water bodies across J&K. 
  • 373 crore rupees have been allocated for the development and conservation of Dal and Nageen lakes in this year’s budget.
