1. On Independence Day, India’s first Air Force Heritage Centre at Chandigarh is set to take flight-
- The Air Force Heritage Centre is all set to take flight on this year’s Independence Day.
- The country’s first IAF Heritage Centre, which will house vintage aircraft is being set up at the erstwhile Government Printing Press building in Sector 18.
- The center is set to have eight attractions in total, including aircraft models and weapon displays.
- The biggest attraction, however, will be its very own flight simulator.
- In addition, informative exhibits including aero engines, aircraft, kiosks, and other air force artifacts, including machines/fixtures, films on achievements and personalities, and guides, will also be set up.
- A souvenir shop will also be set up at the museum.
- The 1971-fame Gnat vintage aircraft, which shot many Pakistani Sabre aircraft down had reached the center earlier.
- The heritage center will be maintained by the UT administration, while the weapons and other equipment will be set up by the air force.
2. On May 11, 2022, the India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting is to be held in New Delhi-
- The India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting will be held in New Delhi.

- Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur along with movie celebrities from across the country will walk the Red Carpet at Cannes on the 17th of May.
- Red Carpet event at the 75th Cannes Film Festival is going to be a gala event as celebrities including Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are set to walk the Red Carpet as part of the Indian delegation on the opening day of the film festival.
- This year, the intent is to showcase the rich flavor and diversity of India through its cinema.
- The delegation has been hand-picked to represent different strengths and aspects of the country.
- Several new initiatives were undertaken at the recently concluded 52nd International Film Festival of India.

- The Ministry of Tourism under its ‘Incredible India’ brand line is participating in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), Dubai-2022.
- It is showcasing India’s rich and diversified tourism potential and providing a platform to the tourism stakeholders to showcase the various tourism destinations and products including Niche products.
- Also, it is aimed to promote India as a ‘Must See, Must Visit’ destination.
- The India Pavilion is showcasing India as a ‘365-Day Destination’ which is a year-round multi-faceted tourist destination such as culture, adventure, cruise wildlife, wellness, and medical tourism.
- The India Pavilion was inaugurated in the presence of Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj and other dignitaries.
5. Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav leads Indian delegation at COP-15 on Combating Desertification-
- Environment Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav have said, despite the COVID pandemic, India as President of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP-14 made significant contributions in bringing the nations together toward the global goal of halting and reversing land degradation.
- Mr. Yadav is leading an Indian delegation at the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-15) of the UNCCD at Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire.
- Mr. Yadav will address the high-level segment, including a Heads of States Summit.
- India had hosted the fourteenth session of the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification from 2nd to 13th September 2019 in New Delhi and is the current President of the same.
- At COP-14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India would raise its ambition of the total area that would be restored from its land degradation status, from twenty-one million hectares to twenty-six million hectares between now and 2030.
- A High-level Dialogue of the United Nations General Assembly held on 14th June 2021 on desertification, land degradation, and drought, was addressed by Mr. Modi wherein he highlighted the success stories and initiatives taken by India to combat land degradation.
6. Bhubaneswar launches ‘India’s first divyang sensory park’-
- In a welcome move, which promises to augment the mental and physical development of divyang children, a sensory park was inaugurated in Bhubaneswar.
- The sensory park, which was constructed in association with the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and meant only for divyang children, is claimed to be India’s first such park.

1. Yoon Suk Yeol was sworn in as the President of South Korea-
- A new political era is underway in South Korea. Yoon Suk Yeol was sworn in as President, ushering in the country’s first conservative government in five years.
- The ceremony attracted about 40,000 people, including US second gentleman Douglas Emhoff and Japan’s Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa.
- One of Yoon’s main challenges will be dealing with North Korea, which is accelerating its nuclear and missile development.
- Yoon also touched on domestic policies, saying economic growth based on science, technology, and innovation is one way to help solve problems, including the widening wage gap.
- Yoon relocated the Presidential office from the compound known as the Blue House, to a building once used by the Defense Ministry. He says it’s meant to show his office is away from a “symbol of imperial power” and closer to the public.
2. India’s first Centre of Excellence for Khadi to open in Delhi-
- Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Narayan Rane, will inaugurate the Centre for Excellence for Khadi in New Delhi.
- This Centre will be set up at the National Institute of Fashion Technology as a hub in Delhi and will have its branches across Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Kolkata, and Shillong.
- They are also developing a knowledge portal for Khadi to disseminate design directions to reach out to all the Khadi institutions.

1. The first Mexican-origin woman to space is to be included in the Blue Origin NS-21 mission-
- Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced the crew flying on its NS-21 mission.
- The six passengers going on a spaceflight on the company’s New Shepard spacecraft will include electrical engineer and former NASA test lead Katya Echazarreta, who will become the first Mexican-born woman and youngest American woman to fly to space.
- She will be flying as part of Space for Humanity’s sponsored Citizen Astronaut Program.
- The rest of the crew will include Blue Origin investor and NS-19 astronaut Evan Dick, business jet pilot Hamish Harding, civil production engineer Victor Correa Hespanha, venture capitalist Jaison Robinson and explorer and venture capitalist Victor Vescovo.
2. Mumbai: India’s first bio-gas powered EV Charging Station inaugurated by Aaditya Thackeray-
- Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated India’s first bio-gas powered EV charging station in Mumbai.
- The charging station can generate 220 units of energy from household waste.
- The energy plant will charge electric vehicles and will power street lights.

2. Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma passes away-
- The legendary Santoor maestro and renowned musician Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma passed away in Mumbai.
- Born on 13 January 1938 in Jammu & Kashmir, Shiv Kumar started learning vocals and tabla at age of five years.
- He started learning Santoor at age 13. He was suffering from kidney-related issues for the past six months and was on dialysis. He passed away due to cardiac arrest.
3. 11th May is observed as National Technology Day-
- The National Technology Day is observed on 11th May across the country.
- The day is commemorated every year and has a historical significance.
- The officials pay tribute to the Indian scientists on this day.
- On May 11, 1998, India successfully tested nuclear weapons in Pokhran, therefore, marking the day as an achievement of India’s technical advances.
- This year’s National Technology Day is themed on “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for sustainable future”.
